I'm a first time saber buyer, and I have an open order for a Venom (Tier 3 Champion). I hear that the claws can get bent when dueling, so people suggest taking the claws out if doing so. I'm ordering through the main SF site, not ASP. I know the hilts have glued threading. What I'm wondering is if I request non-glued threading, would I be able to order a different emitter through ASP, and swap it out?

How difficult would this be as far as dealing with the inner electronics? Where does the LED light sit within the hilt? Again I'm a first time buyer, so I have no idea yet since the order was just placed a month ago.

I love the Venom, but I think it would be cool if I could get a spare/different ASP emitter to use when dueling, rather than unscrew the claws. If anybody has insight on how feasible this is and/or potential issues, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hopefully someone corrects me if I am wrong, but the claws are attached via allen screws. They should be removable from the emitter. You just need the right sized allen key for the job.

If the emitter section is removable (and it might not be), you should be able to remove the blade, loosen the LED retention screw, then unscrew the emitter section. Hopefully pop the LED module out first so you won't risk twisting and breaking any wires. But it still risks damage even if you do it carefully, so I wouldn't generally recommend doing it much. The wires inside are pretty fragile.

Removing the claws is faster, easier, and safer.

And yes, they bend easily. I confirmed that the first day I had my saber. It may look a little weird without the claws, but it's better than damaging the hilt with each duel.

FWIW, here's my Venom-like ASP saber (and another ASP saber). It shows where the retention screws are:
This is not the post you're looking for.

First issue is SF might but honor the request for a non-glued hilt.

Second issue is the LED module needs to be secured to the emitter by a retention screw. So that screw would have to be loosened in the first emitter, then the emitters swapped, then the LED re-secured.

IF you can get a non-glued hilt, and are willing to drill/tap a new 8-32 socket, you could grab a short Male-Female coupler along with a replacement emitter and drill a new LED retention socket in the coupler. Then any emitter could be freely swapped in and out onto the coupler without disturbing the LED module.

Honestly unless you are reasonably technically savvy I would not recommend this. If you want a "dueling emitter" get an extra set of venom claws from the main website for 30 USD. That is gonna be by far the easiest way to have a nicer emitter if a claw gets bent.
