Hey Everyone,

With ASP coming up soon and so many colors to pick!!! But here's my dilemma. After watching saberforge's blade color video, blade color photos, you folks pictures of your sabers I am so torn. Some pictures make an amber blade look like a beautiful gold orange color while some make it look like a deep orange that I'm not quite fond of. Some yellow photos look like a nice gold color (like some of the amber photos) Maybe this will help you guys help me. I don't want bright bee-like yellow but I don't want deep orange either so which would suit my needs?

PS I want to do a knights of the fallen empire cosplay pictured below

Amber is orange. If you're looking for yellow, then you want yellow, lol. Keep in mind that cameras and the like do not accurately ever capture color consistently, so it's hard to get a good solid reference of what something is going to look like from a photo alone. Such is the nature of light :( also, since yellow is a mixed color, depending on the charge of your batteries you will see a little fluctuation in the overall color of it as well.

I realize this goes a little against the grain of what some people would say but I have 2 brand new amber sabers. These are less than a month old. To my eyes I would never call these orange. If I told someone to paint my house orange and they painted it this color they would be getting to do it again or wouldn't get paid.

They are a very "solid" yellow. This is not pastelie at all. It does not glow whiteish in the middle. But they are yellow. That said they do not look at all like your picture.

My understanding is yellow is made at 12w by mixing 2 amber plus 2 green. I do not own a yellow saber but have seen one in person (and have one on the way. To my eyes, in person 2 amber plus 2 green looks a little greener than I would like. I won't call it green but it is a slightly green yellow. Now I don't know about current, the yellow I have seen was a year old I think. Phil is working with smaller dies now and mounting them closer. That may make a difference. I also own a blood orange saber and that is not orange either. It's a little bit orange, red.

At the Champ level you are ordering 2 6w colors anyway and I would be very curious what color you got with 3 amber and 1 green. So basically a 6w yellow and 6w amber. Specifically related to that photo I almost wonder what you would get with 6w of amber, 3w of green and 3w of white. I don't think there is a single current color that will reproduce that photo right now. I believe from that photo you will be the most happy with yellow.

You are talking about ASP so the whole thing is QC anyway. I guess my question for ASP is will it be a single switch running all 12w or will it be 2 6w pairs like a champ? You could always change LEDs later for a whopping 30 bucks.

So that's my first hand experiences with these colors and my general thoughts.

White mixed with any color tends to wash it out really strongly.. a mix like that with white thrown in would appear very very pale I would imagine.

Amber is not orange, as in, identical to the fruit... but to my eyes, it's most definitely not yellow, either. They named it aptly I think, amber. If you've seen jurassic park and the insect frozen in amber... it's actually a pretty close resemblance to that type of color.

I would also like to see a 3 amber 1 green mix. Bet that would look nice :) this also makes me wonder what the lime green color mix is.. 3 green 1 amber is my bet... it's a awesome shade of green. The opposite I bet would be really cool...

Thank you all for your input! Although I'm trying for a Knights of the Fallen Empire thing I'm not so concerned about matching his saber perfectly. My main concern is find a good balance between bee yellow and orange(fruit) color. As many of you have pointed out pictures and videos just can't do some colors the Justice they deserve. I intend to start my saber off with mint green and then order a yellow/Amber blade with QC later. Considering yellow is made of green and Amber it may be just right for me. Still unsure lol. Thanks guys

I actually have an led in route to mix amber red and green to see if that pulls off a real "creamsicle" orange.

These amber blades may be the coolest color I have. So if you want to go lighter that's fine but just on a "cool color" level I like Amber best I think.

That should be pretty interesting.
One day I will have an amber saber, I don't want to pick amber for one of my kickstarter colors because I really want the amber AV switch, so it will have to wait.

After looking around I feel this might be a good photo comparison of colors. What do you guys think. I think blood orange looks like a nice deep orange and amber has a nice good glow to it which looks amazing.
