Let me start by saying that this is not a review. I received my Kylo Ren today and just wanted to satiate any curiosity of the likeness between the Relic and the Ren. Here ya go.

I really feel that a Templar emitter w/the Relic body and pommel would have been ideal for SF's version of the Kylo Ren saber.

Agreed. It's very clear now having them side by side how much the Templar emitters more closely resemble the Kylo Ren. While I don't think (and I'm just speculating) that it was ever their intention to have the Relic be (dare I say) a "replica" or "inspired by" styled hilt, you can certainly see the likeness in the skull crusher pommel and grenade grip.
On another note, there is a bit of an Elitist feel to owning one now that they have been discontinued and even before they sold through the first 100.

Agreed! So much so that I was actually thinking of asking if it would be possible to get at least a Relic pommel put on a Templar, if/when I decided to pull the trigger on one. |

My only beef, personally, with the Templar is the Ep1 Obi-Wan style pommel (not sure if it's an Avenger or Fallen pommel, going by ASP nomenclature).
Change that to a Relic pommel, however, and it's golden. I can understand the mindset behind having a "Jedi" version of the crossguard design in the line up, though. Which I think is what they were going for with the Templar. And I certainly wouldn't pass up a Templar if I came across someone selling theirs at a price point I could comfortably hit right now. (Which would admittedly have to be pretty low right now, as my household has been binge buying sabers for like two months now, so our expendable income reserves are somewhat drained for the time being.) |

I think I am in good company when I say that we are all essentially in the same boat there. If $$$ were no object, we would all own at least 1 of every saber The Forge produces, and making heavy use of the new Custom shop to make them unique. However, since we all live in the real world, we have to consider carefully the many permutations of what we REALLY want, and make every purchase count as we work our way through our respective "Must Have" lists.
In a way, I think we appreciate them more because they represent such significant investments. |

So, I got confirmation, the Relic is NOT discontinued, it was just sold out REALLY fast. It wasn't pulled; they all sold out in record time, making it perhaps SF's most successful design launch.
 So, it'll be back once more parts for the Relic come in. |

So, I got confirmation, the Relic is NOT discontinued, it was just sold out REALLY fast. It wasn't pulled; they all sold out in record time, making it perhaps SF's most successful design launch.
If I remember correctly a "full batch" of the Relic (and Templar) weren't made but rather a batch of 50 each with a 25/25 split of weathered/regular. Those weathered Relics were gone in a flash w/the regular Templars and Relics following soon after. Only 5 weathered Templars are left.

Thanks, I'm tempted but really prefer the look of the V2 and Weathered finish. Hopefully it will be readded in 2016 |
