Hi all,

I've got a Champion level Gladius with the battery drained. I'd lost my charger and the saber sat for months (with the kill key installed) without a charge. The good news is I found the charger this weekend. The bad news is that, now that the thing is completely dead, after 24 hours on the charger it will not fire up at all

By not keeping the thing charged, have I hosed it completely? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, you probably have a dead cell battery. As it's a champion, the battery is directly wired up in the internals. If the saber is still under warranty, send it to SF, they'll replace it, if not, then you can pay them to do it if you're not comfortable putting a new battery in yourself.

Say that made me think of a question I am not seeing in the FAQ, what kind of life should a person expect out of a battery (in hours or charge/discharge cycles) under normal use with a Champion Saber(whatever that is)? I guess my question is whether or not it is common for folks to have to replace the battery within the first year? two? three?

It's in the FAQ thread and in a couple other areas. It actually isn't a very frequently asked question.... so it wasn't included.
That varies depending on several situations, but on average, you can expect about 4-5 hours of runtime for a warrior, 3.5 - 4.5 for a champion, and 3-4 for a hero.

Edit: To clarify, runtime means the saber powered ON. If you have it off, or only on periodically, it'll last days, even weeks.

Recently though, those times seem a little on the short side. Some people have been getting 5-7 hours runtime out of their sabers.

Batteries in these are like batteries in everything else; it just depends on how well you maintain them, for how long they're going to last. If you sit and let one be dead for an extended period of time, eventually the cell in the battery is going to die, and be unable to hold a charge; that's just the nature of rechargeable cell batteries. If you maintain the batteries well, they'll last a really, really long time.
