So I recently received my first Saberforge saber, a Venemous Fury. The hilt is amazing. I got a 37" blade, and I am having some problems. When I screw it in and swing it around, I hear a clicking sound. I assumed that it was some issue with the screw, so I searched to see if anyone else had a similar problem. Some others did, and recommended that I wrap some scotch tape around the base of the blade so that it would have a more snug fit. Tried it. It did seem to provide a much better fit, but the clicking remained.

Just for an experiment, I pulled the blade out and swung it around, separate from the hilt. The clicking remained. So it is something actually in the blade. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this?

Thanks for any advice!

Mine does the same thing. I believe it's the film inside crinkling. If you remove the blade from the hilt and flex it toward you, you can see the film crinkle a bit inside, hence the sound. As for a fix, that I'm not sure if there is one. Perhaps one of the more experienced guys on here will know.

confirmed. I can take the blade and give it a good swing and it will click slightly inside. I haven't found a way to stop it yet but it doesn't appear to damage the film so I haven't been too worried.

Hi sorry to intrude but I have a theory about the clicking.

I'm no expert but I think as you swing the blade around air is being forced down the tube and causing the diffusion film as mentioned to wrinkle and separate slightly from the wall of the blade.
It might be this change in air pressure (like whistling over a milk bottle) and it maybe possible that some sort of clear film (that is heat resistant and won't affect the colour and brightness) to seal the hilt end of the blade stopping air travelling down it. If the film wraps over the end of the blade it may also help with any "Blade Wobble" as well (just make sure the film doesn't extend past the end of the emitter). Maybe Justin at the custom shop could suggest a suitable material if he has a moment, I know he must be busy.

I hope this helps.

Oh don't get me wrong. This has not bothered me at all as i can only hear it if I am really focused on it and swing with a lot of force. As far as I could tell it is just the blade flexing a little bit from the power of the swing and the film inside crackling a bit. I can replicate the effect just grabbing the blade and giving a good hard swing.

My blade fits good and tight when screwed in so I know it is not a loose blade. I thought of trying the tape trick to see if it helps muffle it a bit more but it has not hondered my enjoying my venomous fury at all!

No worries Zeddicus,

Just thought it might be a fix for anybody else who had a similar problem.
Glad you are happy with your Venomous Fury, just remind me to avoid sparring with you if our paths ever cross, if you hit that hard!

Kind regards,

For Tyeth

I don't really see it as a problem per se, more a matter of physics. The polycarbonate blade is more flexible than the film inside it, so when the blade flexes more than the film is able to, it crinkles and makes the clicking sound.

So ccman1, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think it's just a property inherent to the way the blades are made, and shouldn't cause you any problems. :)

If it really bothers you though, you might consider a shorter blade (32" or smaller) as it will have less "whippyness" or flex, and less prone to the crinkling.

Hi All,

On a lighter note, imagine how the Emperor/Sidious feels with all his "Wrinkles"!
Luckily for him and the rest of the Galaxy far, far away they don't have to worry about our planet's physics limitations.

I still feel that encapsulating/sealing the blade end would help though.

I now have the Venomous fury but the only "clicking" I can hear is the blade hitting the shroud other than that, nothing...

-I might put some tape around the part that is hitting so that my blade might last a bit longer-

Hi MasterWolf,

Congratulations on your saber, a very nice model!

Back to the blades though, I think we all need to keep in mind that even though the sabers are highly engineered, there are always going to be variances in fit between parts. Even in top flight engineering like Indycar, Nascar, Formula 1 even NASA, tolerances occur down to 1/1000 of an inch sometimes. Blade whip flexibility probably is at a limit as, to make the blade stiffer, the wall would need to be thicker (reducing colour and brightness).

Hopefully these tolerances can be overcome by the techniques mentioned before and you all can thoroughly enjoy your prized possesions. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions.
