I believe what he have is the first chapter, in a 3 part story. They incorporated some familiar elements, into a new story, perhaps in an attempt to allay fears that because it was Disney, that somehow it would NOT be Star Wars. There was real pressure for the first entry in the new series to do well, both critically and financially. Fortunately, they have met their goals, but by incorporating anything familiar, some will judge it as unoriginal. I can see a case for that assertion, but in the end, the only question one has to ask was: Was I entertained by this movie, and would I see it again? Repeat viewership has always been key to any blockbuster movie's success. I think the majority of folks are saying "Yes" to both questions. I know I certainly am. Already seen it twice, and likely a third viewing coming up this week.

As I said, this is the first chapter. I expect that the next two will be less reliant on familiar themes, feeling free to fully spread their story telling wings. Also, I expect to see characters that we liked, but did not see much of to be much more heavily utilized in Episodes 8 and 9.

I certainly don't hold your take on the movie against you, and certainly meant no offense in my response. Just trying to clarify why I feel differently. In the end, we all still love Star Wars, and look forward to any and all upcoming releases.
