I'm looking to buy a Prodigal Son green (Luke ROTJ) saber to be my first one.

I noticed that there are none currently listed on Etsy, and from what I've gathered it's a much longer lead time to order off the site than Etsy.

That being said, is there a way to order them off Etsy that i'm not aware of?

Also, I see the ASP INDIEGOGO fundraiser. Am I able to build the same exact ROTJ saber with that? What are the benefits of buying an ASP if any- for someone that won't be using any interchangeable parts? I will be keeping the Prodigal Son the way it is simply because it will be a 'canon' saber.

Playing with the saber parts I made this:

Prodigal son ASP

It looks like the benefit is I could get a "Warrior" level saber with the ASP for $225, and then buy the champion sound upgrade separately and install it myself. Does that sound right?

If it's sold out of the etsy shop that means they're out of the components to build it so the website would be the only way to buy the "straight build" of it.

It's a bit cheaper from ASP for whatever reason and you pick up an extra or two. The only real "downside" is that the build will consist of multiple components (pommel, body, switch, emitter) so the dimensions might be different than the straight build model.

The only vaguely problematic thing to consider with this is that you won't be able to get in-hilt charging with the ASP electronic kits; you'll have to pull the battery out every time you want to charge it.

Is this helpful?

Oh, so for the ASP models you can't get the in hilt charge kit at all?

Not currently. iirc they do plan to have them as part of their later expansions.

Is there a way to have it upgraded by sending it in as a fallback?

I strongly doubt there'll be any way to upgrade an ASP saber to in-hilt recharge until they release the relevant parts. If you're set on that feature, it'll likely be quicker to order the straight build h2soy mentioned. I don't think there's any time frame for (or even certain promise of) in-hilt recharge on ASP saber.

I'm planning on sending my ASP sabers back for the SF custom shop to install the electronics and in-hilt charging. The custom shop ( email is This email address is being protected from spambots. So, yes, you can send a "finished" saber back in for customization although the SF custom shop prefers you order directly through them.

Wait a sec, forgive my ignorance. So there was a Kickstarter and an Indiegogo for ASP? Were there any other crowdfunding campaigns I missed? I only knew about the KS.

The IGG is more a placeholder mechanism for them to take ASP orders before they launch it on their website; it's not a funding campaign per se.

So it seems there is no real benefit to buying an ASP saber- especially since I'm wanting a cannon Prodigal Son

In your case, yeah, no real benefit.
