TOPIC: Finn's lightsaber color?

I really like the new look of the lightsaber in ep 7, does anyone know what color its closest too? I'm thinking somewhere around medium blue...

Looks pretty Arctic blue to me.. but what do I know =P

Medium blue in the dark, Arctic blue during the day scenes IMO.

If you follow the history of the "Skywalker lightsaber" Anakin's lightsaber was Royal Blue. After sitting unused for 18-20 years
the power crystals weakened or faded to the cyan or light blue we see in ANH and ESB. If that really is the saber Vader cut from Luke's hand, it should be Royal Blue.

Looks deep blue to me. That aura of blue in that forest scene with Finn looks like a very deep,rich shade of blue.

Could I point out that the colour of the blade could be down to the techniques used to film the scenes. John Boyega has said in interviews that they now have better quality sabers which emit ambient light onto the actors. This and post production can affect colours.The Saber was also "victim" to lack of technology in 1976, making the blades look unrealistic, and needed to be corrected in the re-release.
If you are referring to background history, the Power Cells may have weakened, the Crystal didn't power the Saber but focused it's energy into the blade.

The fadeing refers to the color of the crystal, not power supply.

Glad I could shed some light (pun not intended!) on the subject.It is a bit confusing as certain elements in the Star Wars galaxy have been altered by Disney, and knowing what is or isn't "canon" anymore is difficult.Added to that the real life issues such as filming techniques past and present, you have a lot to talk about.

I don't know if I can post a link to another forum, but there is a large topic covering the subject.
As for being canon, I think it was well established that the saber Luke lost in Empire was originally Anakin's(his father),
So it would make since that it would be the same Royal Blue.

I think there are some variation on blues throughout the movies. If this first picture is his father's lightsaber it's Arctic blue.. but when he is fighting Vader(and on my profile pic) it is more royal... are they the same saber?? I dunno ask someone more geeky than I.

I mentioned canon as on another thread I discussed in length about Anakin's SECOND Lightsaber and it's history both on screen and off.Another member wanted to know which version of the Saber was considered as the definitive one.I answered that the Saber developed like a child through the three films we see it in, ROTS,ANH and ESB. Because this Saber appeared in all three it's appearance changed due to technical issues in real life construction and one being stolen.The on screen colour should have been the same as you say but the techniques changed for filming sabers with each film also causing changes in colour and causes fans to ask why.
The explanation of the faded Crystals wasn't mentioned in the films or cartoons etc, but in the novels and books which Disney may or may not acknowledge any more.

As for links I have mentioned other sites of interest without problem, as long as it is related to our hobby and not links to dating sites or such.

EDIT: Lucas also re-coloured the sabers for the DVD re-releases just to complicate matters but it is the same Saber in the storyline/history.

I don't accept what Disney considers "cannon" it removes almost all the EU.

Sorry "Second" Saber , he destroyed one in the droid factory on Geonosis, then built the Legacy Saber we are talking about (this was collected by Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustaffar and given to Luke) Then his third was built as Darth Vader and see that one in ANH (duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi) The rest of the post is correct.
