Has anyone seen any good examples of a quick release staff coupler?

Im really in love with the idea of both dual and staff combat and would love to at some point be able to create myself or have a saber staff made that can quickly spearate into 2 one handed sabers and then reconnect into a staff again in a flourishing or light combat situation. (Without stopping to fiddle with latches or unscrew it all the way)

Ideally this would be something that take a quarter turn to attach or disconnect or maybe a system similar to my airbrush quick disconnect where you pull the outer ring down to release it then it just snapps back in.

Not having any sabers yet please feel free to tell me if this idea is just not feasible or practical in any way and why. Knowledge is power.

I am not aware of any such couplers, but creating one would be difficult..

The easier it would be to separate the 2 halves, the weaker (structurally) the coupler would be, which would make dueling difficult.

I could see a system where you have something similar to a cover tech knob on 1 end, and on the other a slide/lock system, similar to the saberlok belt system.

This would give you a "twist" and separate system, but it would make the center of the staff significantly weaker.

At its small size my airbrush quick connects seem very sturdy. I wonder how it would hold up at saber size.

I found a few images that better describe how my airbrush quick connect works. I wonder if they make these in a size close enough for a saber or what the patent looks like for example could you recreate something like this without the air valves legally.

Images found in a google image search.

Depending on the final look of such a coupler, I'd definitely buy into that system.

There's a couple problems with these...

1 - They're expensive. Much more expensive to make than a threaded coupler.

2 - They're not structurally sound for full-speed dueling. One wrong twist as you move the saber and suddenly half your saber is flying across the room cause you accidentally disengaged it.

3 - Space limitations within the hilt.

Seeing as how we specialize in cost-effective, duel worthy, smaller hilts... these aren't yet something we're looking into. Perhaps when things are little calmer, and Phil can sit and focus on R&D, he might look into designing a new method of a quick release system that would meet our criteria.
