After spending hours upon hours designing a hilt that I really like, it turns out that the length is longer than usual. I'm 6'4" and prefer a two-handed grip. The length of what I've designed is 14". That's a bit deceptive though as the pommel is 2" inches long and the main body grip is 5" with 3.5" of actual handle space.
I know there's no real hard and fast rule about these things, but in people's estimation would this just be ridiculous? Here's a picture:

My fave hilt is the SF Archon which is 15". Hilt length is a matter of preference, I like the longer length because I too favor a robust two handed grip. I think you'll be fine with length. The hilt you designed does look a bit bottom heavy because, as you observed, the pommel and the base of the body take up about 25% of the hilt. What's most important is that you like the design and think it's something you can work with.

I might change the pommel later to something smaller depending on how it handles. That particular emitter was chosen to sort of balance out the hilt, but also for how cool it looks. I'm not sure how much grip I can get out of the grips on the emitter if I was to widen my grips.
I'd like to see if the weighted pommel gets some good momentum going when doing orbits. I've done samurai and kendo training in the past, which is less about flare and more about leverage swings. |

Thanks! Means a lot coming from someone who knows their stuff. I went a bit nuts with the SaberParts.com site. The result is a bunch of really different designs that I posted in an album on my Facebook page.
