Hey all. I just put an order in for the Epoch Hero and chose the rgba with 12w+ option.
After watching some videos just now I realized that the color change seems to happen by twisting the hilt. Wouldn't this be a problem If dueling or spinning? Trying to figure out if I should just alter my order to a 3 color set up.
And I assume this sound card has the removable sad card?

The change is via the twist, but just like the swing and clash, the twist sensitivity is adjustable, you can set it all the way down during your dueling to make it impossible.

Hmm. So because it looks like its a sequential run to get to a specific color how would you get to your color choice and THEN turn down the sensitivity?
Also, can you chose the start up color so you dont have to go through this every time you turn it on?
Basically wondering what people who have used both think. Is it worth keeping tbe rgba for its flexibility or is it more of a pain to use practically?

I've been wondering the same thing about the hero tier and dueling. Seems like it might change frequently on accident while swinging it around. I'm about to order a Champion Tier Prodigal Son, but some of the other sabers look super cool and was thinking about also ordering a Hero tier Gladius or Exalted to have a second one for when company is over. Also, I have a hard time deciding on a color for a second saber so it'd be rad to have all of them.

You can change the sensitivity after you select a color, you can also change what color starts first.

In addition to the onboard editing on the saber itself, you can also remove the micro SD card and run a program on your computer to configure litterally everything.

Thank you Mihoshi for the info. So it sounds like this shoukd be a fine set up for dueling OR show. Why wouldnt this be a preferred choice with all of the options available rather than just picking two colors? Seems like the new 12w+ LEDs should help out with any brightness issues.
Can anyone compare the two? A fixed 12w+ color vs this rgba model?

There is a definite difference in brightness, but it's not a whole lot with "mixed" colors.

By "mixed" Colors that are achieved by mixing 2 or more colors, such as purple (red + blue)

Here is a photo of me with my Champion 12W Purple Saber (Lower) and My Hero RGBA Saber (Upper) configured to purple

As you can see the 12W purple is brighter then the RGBA set in purple, but not a whole lot...

Basically all sabers are 3W, depending on the color you get "more wattage".
A blue saber is 4 - 3w blue dyes (12w total), where as a purple saber is 2 - 3w blue dyes and 2 - 3w red dyes (12w total)

With the RGBA its 1 - 3w red, 1 - 3w green, 1 - 3w blue, and 1 - 3w amber (12w total)
So with the RGBA saber configured to purple I have 1 blue dye and 1 red dye (6w total) and the green and amber dyes are turned off.
So my hero is "half" as bright as my champion in purple mode.

In person the brightness difference is noticeable, however, if you did't have another saber to compare it with, it would still be bright as hell :)

This comment's accuracy is unsubstantiated.
If I am not mistaken, the Hero Tier uses a Spark Color 2 Soundboard.
Spark Color 2 info on NECs website announces an upgraded version called the R2 or SC2-R2. One of the features eliminates the "accidental" colour change on an RGBA+ during dueling by changing the way blade colours are altered. i.e. rather the default axis twist motion, it incorporates an aux/av consecutive button press to be achieved.

Also with 12+ it's not any brighter, the dyes are simply closer together on the board and the focusing crystal is better, so you have the same amount of light being emitted, but it's sent down the blade much better so you don't get as much base flare and it fills the blade with the color more evenly.

With the 37" blades you'll notice some drop off in color towards the end of the blade, not much, but noticeable, and the 12w+ helps with that.

How big is the difference of the colour tapering off between the two?

You are correct, I forgot about that option, the default is still the twist, but you can set it up so that you have to hold the aux button and twist.

Honestly the "tapering" is about the same, the RGBA is less bright all over, but the tapering looks the same relative to the brightness

Brilliant!
So the ones for sale now in hero tier all have this feature? Makes much more sense to have tonpress the button for a change rather than just a twist. Guess i will stick with this option now.

Yes it's a feature of the board they use in the Hero sabers.
You can configure just about anything for it in the software.

This upgraded spark color -R2....
Is that what currently comes with hero tier or is it a simple software upgrade?
Can anyone else verify that this holding down the aux button while twisting is currently available on shipping models?

Yes, the Hero tier uses the Spark Color 2 board. It is a completely different hardware platform from the Champion tier Sabercore boards, which are smaller and cannot really be customized.

Here's the Spark Color 2:

Here's the Sabercore:

But the above post noted an "r-2" version. I assumed this meant a revised software update. So often they can just be downloaded

OH. That's what I get for not reading all of the context.

Sounds right: "The upgrade to SC2-R2 is a free download-able upgrade. You simply need to download the new default files for SC2-R2 when it becomes available, and your board will be able to support the new features."

However, if you are using RGB/RGBA on a blade with quillions, a hardware change will be necessary: "Using X-Saber does require the new XDrive module, which is just a bit bigger than the newest TruDrive module, coming in at about 0.85" x 0.41"."

Cool. Thanks dor clarifying. Sounds like a much needed addition for this twist color switching problem. Would allow you to bypass the whole sensitivity issue

I can confirm the aux twist option does Not work by default.
I downloaded the default file set last night and I'll give that a try to see if it will work.
