Are there any free, user-friendly programs that I could use to design a saber?

Wouldn't it be awesome? A program that can allow you to preview what you're about to buy (On SF I mean) on a 3D scale with all the details you asked for! That would be out of this world!

I use sketchup for 3D models, it's free, not hard to figure out. Blender is also free.

Blender is your best option. I use it to render sabers all the time. It's a bit harder than sketch up but the results are FAR better.

I'm using 3DS Max from Autodesk, but Blender is also great.

Can you show us pictures (if it's possible) just so I know what the product looks like! I might getting started, just to put some ideas in shape!

i feel like the Ashen Guardian and even the Last stand is somewhat influenced by Plo Koon?

Ashen Guardian is an original design, while the Last Stand is a Kit Fisto inspired Saber.

But then there's the question of support. Would you rather support a company who charges for their software or a company that does it for free? That's why I use blender and sketch up exclusively. Because the companies behind them are good enough to share their software.
