Sorry if this has been answered- I'm on mobile right now so search is a pain.

Anyway, when the ASP stuff comes out, will the individual pieces be compatible with current hilts? Like new pommels/ emitters/ etc.?

Yes and no.

SF has been reworking the majority of their hilts to be thread compatible with each other. So new/reworked hilts will work with ASP but older hilts (those which were designed more than a year ago) will not be compatible. Some hilts, like the Bane and the Grandmaster v2, have components which differ significantly from the ASP modular system so some portions of those hilts won't be compatible with ASP either (or at all). Another factor to consider is that with the straight builds the components (other than the pommel) are glued together so if you wanted to swap out an emitter you'd need to either request that the emitter not be glued or unstick it yourself. Pommels will probably be the easiest ASP components to swap in and out.

Pommels more than likely, seeing as they're just threaded on. I'm sure there will be a few that may not however just because of certain sabers designs.

As for emitters it's my understanding that most, if not all, sabers are made in one piece(aside from the pommel which is necessary for accessing battery/sound). So no, emitters won't be compatible with current named hilts.

Edit: Bah, just beaten by H2soy. Also I didn't know sabers came glued, is that a select few or a majority?

Thanks guys!

So the real question.... Should I buy now, or wait to see what new goodies get released here in the coming days/weeks?

At this point I would wait, for a number of reasons. First of all Saberforge has a huge backlog right now and it's taking them a justifiably long time to get through it. Even emails are taking longer than the norm to get back and forth. Second I would wait until ASP is officially launched, most are thinking late January/early February. Should also have more options at that point including the 12W+ and hopefully their new sound card I've heard rumors about.

I think I missed out on the ASP kickstarter because I was waiting for my first saber... now I kinda wish I would have put in on it.. When does ASP launch so I can look at building one of those bad boys?

There is no official word on when ASP will launch. At least none that I have heard. Only that it will launch presumably some time after the Kickstarter and Indiegogo sabers have shipped.
No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.
