I took the wife and kids to a convention this weekend in Miami and came up against an imperial stormtrooper! Unfortunately i'm only about 3 weeks into my lead time wait for my first saber, so I had to rely on the force!

The sheer power of my Force Push(tm) swept the cowardly stormtrooper and everyone nearby away in a blast of concussive force. Unfortunately it blew my daughter holding the camera away as well so you can't see my actual prowess in action...but i'm sure you guys can just take my word for it.

Have no fear my fellow jedi! I did my part to protect the galaxy this weekend!

In all seriousness, that's pretty cool. I love seeing cosplay battles and the like!

Hi jbeem,

Great looking robes you have there, it looks as though you really dealt with that Stormtrooper! Imagine what a formidable warrior you will be when you have access to your Saber!

I read elsewhere that you met Bill Nye The Science Guy, its a good job he didn't cross paths with this fellow,

I believe he's Professor Proton!

Glad you enjoyed the Con,

For Tyeth

Yeah we had a great time and met lots of cool people. We got to listen to Bill Nye do a Q & A and then bought his new book and had it signed. The line for this was astronomical so pictures with him weren't allowed unfortunately due to taking up too much time.

We did get to meet the actors that play Hodor and Loras Tyrell from Game of Thrones and had pictures taken with both of them. They were super friendly and humble people. They both did a Q/A together and my wife and I sat in the very front row. This allowed us to feel as if we were having an almost direct conversation with the two of them because during most of the talking they would regularly discuss things and look out and I'd respond to them and then they'd agree and discuss some more and then ask me a question and etc etc and so forth. I think some of the people several rows back must have gotten annoyed at this but both the actors frequently asked us specific questions and carried on funny anecdotes back and forth with us so it was just an amazing experience.

As I had said a few weeks back, I'm still in the process of putting my Jedi costume together. The robe itself is top notch. I got it from Twin Roses design and its 100% wool which is really the only way for a robe to look like the true screen accurate version. Underneath I have an Obi-wan "sort of" tunic set that I got for a mid range price through China, so its not exactly the best quality but the price was good for what it was. Its somewhat accurate but has two glaring mistakes that prevent me from being accepted into the Rebel Legion: The tabards are too thin and they stupidly stop at the shoulder! Instead of being a normal tabard which drapes OVER your shoulder and hangs both in front of you and goes down your back...these are just two strips of fabric sewn right into your shoulder that just hang in front of you! I had no idea about this when I ordered them but I was so mad when they arrived! Aside from that, it looks decent and did the job.

My wife and one of my daughters also got costumes from the same supplier although they used the included robe which is not as good as mine was since I bought it extra specifically from Twin Roses. Still, we had tons of people come up to us and say how awesome we looked. Lots of people wanted pictures with us and the professional photographers that worked the convention took pro shots of us and used our photo on their main website which was pretty cool!

Since my robe is like my favorite damn thing ever I contacted Andrea who is the woman running Twin Roses design and commisioned her to create a better costume for me. She is currently making me a black linen tunic with dark grey charcoal colored tabard and obi also in linen. The quality of her stuff is top notch and linen is pretty close to screen accurate so I'm really excited. I'll have a "grey" jedi outfit and with a simple switch to a black tabard and obi I can be a sith as well.

Now all I need is a saber and I'll be set for my application into the Rebel Legion!
