I'm desperately trying to decide between colors and I see pictures online and various videos but I can't seem to be able to pin down what is the best, so I am resorting to asking you SF veterans. (Focusing on 12w)

As I can see the absolute best color for brightness and full blade illumination appears to be the Green. However I am more interested in the blue color range. If you guys can help me in any way pinning down which color is the best as far as brightness and fullness is concerned, I would love you forever!

I think you will find any of the blue colors to be plenty bright in the 12w, and especially 12w+. The lighter shades might appear brighter than the darker ones, but I guarantee if you were too look at the LED when ignited (which I do not recommend), you will spend the next few minutes waiting to regain the full use of your eyes!

I own a 12w Arctic Blue, which is very bright. My son has an 12w Indigo Bane which is also very bright, despite being a darker color. He also owns a 12w Red Epoch which is seemingly brighter than all the others, but in all likelihood, just appears that way because of the hue.

The short answer is, there are NO bad colors, but colors like Amber, Red, and Green appear a little brighter (at least to me) because of the combination of their respective hue, and the fact that they all utilize 4 LED dies that are all the same color, rather than using different colored dies to mix colors, to produce a whole different color.

Your mileage may vary, but that is my .02 of a dollars worth!

Wish you had said that sooner Brax. I looked into the LED when I ignited it and there was instant regret.

Brightness/fullness of blade and hilt design are the two most important features of a complete saber, in my humble opinion. For me, these two factors make or break my decision to buy a particular saber.

SF has the one of the brightest LED. I have only the 12W+ and it is brighter than two other manufacturers' LED and blade that I have held in my hands in person, so far by a very comfortable margin.

You cannot go wrong with brightness and diffusion with 12w+ and the V4 standard blade.

Also, bear in mind that with the thin-neck models (Exhalted, Redeemer, Prodigal Son, and the new one...Oracle I think), the LED unit is actually beneath the thin pipe that leads to the emitter. As such, the amount of light is reduced by roughly 10% with a regular 12w, and a little less with the 12w+ (due to the fact that the dies are closer to the center, and so send light through that smaller space more effectively), so while they are still crazy bright, you lose a little due to the nature of thin-neck design. That said, I have an Exhalted, and I consider the small loss totally worth it, and almost imperceptible.

Hi Brax and all,

The new Thin-neck Apprentice model is called The Chosen.

I have a normal 12W green Disciple and have used it in a fully darkened room then switched the blade off and for a few minutes could see a red aura (similar to the effect you get after being blinded temporarily by the sun) they are that bright.
And remember that's just normal 12W LED.

You can't go wrong with SF green. It's awesome. Just my 2 cents worth. I think For Tyeth will agree. ;)

Ah! The Chosen! I won't forget THAT again!

That one is interesting in that, the thin-neck portion of the emitter looks thicker/beefier than the standard thin-neck. If so, the hole through the center might be a tad larger as well, letting more light through. However, that is something that one of the few advanced owners would be able to confirm, or deny. It is my hope though, because I fully intend to own one at some point.

You're welcome,

I have exactly the same hopes.I would have liked a PS or Exalted,Redeemer but I would still have that nagging thought "is it strong enough" but The Chosen being one piece may solve that.I might also be able to afford one sooner.

And I acknowledge DFizzlio is interested in Blue colours, I was just vouching for the brightness level and aftereffects of normal 12W LED'S.

Does that include MINT Green as well?

Hi Kirabi,

I think Greysider was referring to regular SF Green as he has commented on my Saber before. Though the Mint Green is just as good a colour, I had seen pics of Green in both daylight and darkness and that swung it for me.

I honestly can't speak on the mint green as I don't have any experience with it. I have the regular green and a friend of mine has lime green. Both are excellent. Sorry took so long to reply to you, I'm at work(shhhhhh!) and can only reply at break times.

Hi all,

My friend Dav has reminded me of a video on YouTube from fellow member sambot9000. He has a Disciple in Cyan and demonstrates the Saber and colour very impressively with some spinning at the end.
If you wish to see the video the link is here:

Just to give you guys an impression of what it looks like,

Hope it helps
