Guys, if you see a spam post, first... I know Aletani recently asked people to report them, but really it's unnecessary. I do daily forum scans and read almost everything on here, even if I don't have time to reply at that exact time. It's really not necessary to report them, it just spams me and fills up my personal email with spam report emails. Please just ignore them.

Which brings me to my next point. Second, please don't reply to any bot posts. If you do, your chances of being banned go up considerably. I don't read these posts, I click on the username that shows as the last post on these, and they get banned. So if you're posting on spam threads, chances are pretty high I will accidentally ban you unless I happen to recognize the username.... and there are a lot of new users that have joined us in recent times (welcome to all of you by the way!) and I don't recognize all of these names yet.

I apologize if you get accidentally banned. PM either myself or another veteran member (someone with lots of posts that knows who to contact to unban you).

Gotcha. 10-4. I was a bit confused after Aletani's post.

You might want to sticky this thread as an announcement. When the forum is buried under a snowload of spam, this thread is likely to get bumped to the bottom or the next page and no longer be visible. If people do not know that you do not want the report function used, it's best to try to help make them aware. :3 Also, have you been able to look into altering the forum from admin panel to remove the report function from posts, since you do not want it used? Best of luck!

I am fully aware of how posts move down pages due to new posts.

However, as most of these spam posts are erased within a few hours, and they are NOT as big of a deal as people make them out to be, stickying an entire topic on it seems like pure overkill. It's not hard to read a single post and remember not to report spam posts, cause... I have eyes too, and can see them as well.

I am also not taking away the report function from people because there are situations in which reports need to be made. It is not solely for spam.

It seems the bots have the captcha library saved. A really simply fix (if this forum software support it) is just putting in a custom question that wouldn't be in the bot's records.

Was admin at another forum for a while, and we had a lot of problems with bots getting through the default verification system. Changed it to a custom question: "What is the last sentence in the User Agreement?" With the agreement posted at the bottom of the registration form, it was easy for any new member to find the answer. Spambot issue all but vanished.

So a custom human-check like "Please enter the second word in this sentence." with a text box that only accepts "enter" would probably work out better than the current captcha system.
