So I know everyone talks up getting the 12w over the 6w. Lately the pictures I've been seeing of 6w still look pretty amazing. I plan on getting quick connects so $30 more isn't terrible but when you consider that the 12w LED unit is $10 more than the 6w that can begin to add up quickly. You get 5 12w LED units and you've spent an extra $50. I could get an apprentice saber for that.

This hobby is pretty expensive as it is, I just wonder if those of you out there with both 6w and 12w sabers find the additional cost justifiable?

I realize this is an opinion question so I know I should get what I want and before you say it...yes, I realize the 12w is better.

I don't think I've seen many (or any) people that have 12W and intended to buy any 6W units.

I don't have a 6. Never seen an SF 6 in person so I can't really help much. I figure it's probably worth it. If I was going to buy 5 12W units I'd probably just get a hero rgba but Idk... I don't really care about having multiple colors.

Having seen a 6W and a 12W side by side in person, the difference is definitely noticeable. It doesn't pick up on camera much because it's light and it's hard to capture in a picture, unfortunately.. but! It does produce a visible difference in brightness. I guess it really comes down to how bright do you want your saber to be? If you LIKE the extra brightness (I do, and all my sabers are 12W) then yeah, it's worth it. If it's something you're kind of "meh" on, then go with the 6W and save a few bucks. It's really all about personal flavor.

However, I have been told on a couple occassions certain soundboards will require the 12W LED because of their output. So, that's something to keep in mind as well if you're doing custom builds. I wouldn't know much more than that, as I don't do build myself... just trying to pass on what I have heard. :)

I appreciate hearing this from both of you. I'd hate to cheap out and beat myself up over it later. I just wondered if I'd be saving myself but it sounds like for the low cost of the upgrade I'd better just do it.

Thank you very much.

I have considered going with lower options just to get the saber sooner, but when I took into account the time, and expense of sending it back to be upgraded to what I really wanted in the first place, it worked out better to just to do it right the first time.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Yeah that's also my way of thinking! I prefer to wait a little more, get more money in order to buy the product I want in its final form! If I REALLYY want a saber, I'll do everything in my power to get the champion tier, even if that means ordering later!

I'm right with you on that! These sabers are truly amazing - and get all the more so with all the trimmings. B)

I have both 6W and 12W and the difference (especially in daylight) is quite apparent. Actually, the only downside that I've found to the 12W is that its brightness can make it difficult to photograph well under certain lighting conditions. But - MAN - is is a gorgeous blade!
