I just saw on the etsy page that they now have a listing for quick connects.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/229260465/led-quick-connect-upgrade-this-is-an-add?ref=related-4

On the page it stated that the only sabers that were not compatible with quick connects are the thin-necked sabers. Does that mean that we can now order quick connects on apprentice level sabers?

They do give you the option to add quick connects to the apprentice sabers on the etsy page. So I would say yes.

Awesome! Thanks, guys!

Out of curiosity, does the quick connect take up a lot of space within the hilt? I've read that apprentice sabers are considerably smaller than elite sabers, and I was wondering if space within the hilt would be an issue with quick connects.

So then why don't they work in thin necks?

I'm pretty sure it's because of how the thin neck hilts are built. You'd basically have to disassemble it to swap the LED module (which I believe would void the warranty), rather than simply loosening the LED's retention screw like you would for all of the other sabers.

I bought a thin-neck saber, and I had to think very hard about what color to put in it, because I knew there was no changing it (without considerable cost), so it had to count. The upside is, any color SaberForge offers looks outstanding, so there are really no bad choices.

So I could add quick disconnects; it just might void the warranty.

You could if you got the thin neck section unglued as you would have to remove the thin neck section in order to replace the LED module each time as on thin neck sabers the LED sits behind the neck section and not in the emitter section. I would not do it afraid with neck section could come unscrewed during sparring and on contact possibly bend the threads and damage the saber.

Quick connects are possible because SF LED modules are held in place by set screws and when released, they just slide out of the hilt through the blade socket. In a thin neck, the modules sit behind the thin neck portion, so you can't slide them out for easy access.

So the problem isn't space, but rather accessibility?

That's correct, since it is located behind the thin neck section, which is glued and its diameter is smaller then the hole in the emitter you can not pull the led module through and out the emitter.

Do you think there is any chance that SF will design a thin-necked hilt capable of quick connects? I absolutely LOVE the thin-neck designs, but I also like to change the colors on my sabers quite a bit. I've been considering going the Hero tier route and getting three colors, but in doing so, I'm afraid I'll lose some of the brightness in my two 6W colors. Either that, or getting the RGBA, which has spectacular color options but cuts back on the brightness even more.

I am sure they could make a thin neck design that could have a changeable led, But it would have to be a design were the emitter after the thin neck was larger so that depth of the chamber before the neck had a socket depth of at least 2 to 2.5 inches one inch for led module and at least on on inch socket depth to hold blade and would look a lot different than current thin neck saber. Since there are no current plans whether you would see one would depend on sizable demand for such a saber design and you are likely no to see any time soon. Your best bet if you really must have the ability to change colors and have a thin neck saber is to get a Hero RGBA saber. Otherwise you only other option is to pay upwards of $1200+ to have someone build your own design.

Since we've got a Quick Connects post, here's a decent enough place to ask.

Got my Venomous Fury this afternoon, and am trying to get the LED out to confirm that QCs were included. I've got all the retention screws out, and the LED module is sliding up and down in the hilt, but I can't quite get it to come all the way to the end of the hilt. Can't get my fingers in there to pull it out, so I'm at a loss for how I should get to it. Any pointers?

If a quick connect LED is ordered, is it possible to order a 2nd LED unit at the same time to swap out?

After you have removed the blade and loosen the led retention screw, to get it out a light shake upside down with you r hand under to catch led help gets it to come out.

Yes just order the led module and there is a drop down box for the led to have a quick connect attached to it as well.

led module

When ordering these quick connects seperately through Amazon or ebay, does it matter if they're polarized or not?
