Glad to see steps are being taken to fight back against the spammers. Spambots are detestable in my opinion. Its one of the cheapest things you can do to a forum. It ruins the forum experience and the community for real members and forces the staff to work overtime dealing with this nonsense. I had to deal with the same crap on forums Ive moderated on and its such a pain in the ass because the bots are so damn relentless.

We have had a few slip through tonight, but you will notice they are not appearing in this section. I got your backs my friends. They come by their relentlessness via automation. I come by mine by sheer consistency, and force of will!

Luckily in my experience you don't have to get every single one of them. On three other forums I dealt with this same problem and Ive found that as long as you get the vast majority of them(say 90% of them) they will eventually stop targeting the forum at all. Persistance beats out resistance. Stay on them and they'll eventually give up. Good luck man. |

Found the ones that tried to post today, and the accounts were created yesterday, prior to the security protocol changes. Since those were done, new account registration is WAY down which to me suggest legit account registration versus bot registration.
As well, the new steps with the post approval means only the moderators will ever see spam posts, and be able to erase them before it's legitimately posted, and therefore... spam on the forum = eliminated. =D |

Oh yeah, I guess I should also mention....
With the other changes that were made, I finally found a few things I'd been looking for without success for a while. Pictures! I've increased the size limits, which means they don't have to be shrunk AS much to upload, and the quality reduction was also reduced, so pictures will look better and can be a touch larger now. Not much, but it should help some. Also, flood protection was dialed back just a touch. Not much, but hopefully it'll help (especially when you're trying to answer 2-3 PMs back to back). |
