In ROTS when Anakin pledges himself to Sidius, he is told by Sidius that "To cheat death is the power that only one has achieved." Who is he referring to? Sidius killed Plagueis so I'm wondering who else is still out there. Snoke? What do you guys think?

I can see this one of two ways. The first and more likely is simply that he refers to Plagueis, who, though he learned how to cheat death, failed to do so for himself. The second possibility is that, somehow, Sidious knew of Qui-Gon's triumph over death.

In my opinion, Plagueis was the only one to cheat death.

Of course he was killed (unless you're a believer in Snoke=Plageuis), but he still cheated death.

This might converge to philosophical deep mumbo jumbo, but he did create life in Anakin. Which maybe is cheating death? Are you dead if you aren't in existence? I don't know.

But he actually did cheat death on other people, just not himself. He resurrected his pre-Sidious apprentice, Darth Venamis, several times. Repeatedly. He did this and killed Venamis until Venamis' organs gave out.

This is just one example and I'm sure there are more times where Plagueis resurrected or "cheated death" for other test subjects as he was studying or doing other Sith-y actions, I just don't know any off the top of my head.

This is all Legends material however, and I do not believe there is any canon evidence of Plagueis' control over death other than what Palpatine says very vaguely.

So, to answer your question, Palpatine is referring to Plagueis. Although he couldn't save himself, he circumvented death and essentially cheated death on others.

Personally, on the Snoke aspect, I don't believe he is Plagueis or anywhere near as powerful as Sidious or Plagueis or previous Sith. Of course, I may be eating my words when episode 8 comes out but I don't believe Snoke could cheat death (even with his nasty injuries he recieved).

Borommakot~

That's interesting, I never thought of Qui-Gon!
So does becoming a Force Ghost cheat death even without physical manifestation?
You have my mind racing now lol

That's a great perspective!

I would definitely call it cheating death. Based on what we've seen so far, they can't have any direct influence on the universe, but the ability to continue existing, teaching and even learning, means that their potential is incredible. Still, I reason that there must be limitations, otherwise there would be no reason that the Force Ghosts couldn't revive the Jedi order on their own, without Luke's help.

So in the end Anakin did learn how to cheat death? Because if so that's like legitimately amazing. Anakin finally learned how to do what he so desperately wanted to learn.......by returning to the light side.

That's poetic beauty.

Gosh, Star Wars is beautiful.

Well factoring the in the Bane books....

Bane cheated death and some believe that he transferred his life essence to his apprentice, Zannah, who then passed it to Cognus, etc etc etc.
