Really along the lines of the subject title; do you wear specific clothing? I figured that shorts and a tshirt would probably be best to move around in, but what about for your hands? My only sf saber is sthe epoch, and I've noticed that the saber digs and rips some of the skin on my hands from the sharp edges near the center. For sabers that are a bit more sharper than others, how do you make up for the pointy bits aside from just being more careful/wary about it?

Also, if we're practicing wearing more comfy clothing, how do you make the transition to cosplaying, where movement is more restricted? Do you just practice more in the costume, or is there something more that may be done?

I designed my costume for dueling I suppose. I move rough so I have to wear clothes that can keep up with me.

For training I think that the sleeveless gi works really well, because you can rock the sleeveless look with some gloves and bracers or wraps, or you can wear an underarmor shirt or some other accent style shirt under the gi to get a unique look. It's comfy, and you can move basically unrestricted.

I also recommend gloves for the edgier sabers. Some tac gloves, motorcycle gloves, or other similar gloves will be more than adequate. You can find stuff that looks killer and protects your hands.

Definitely depends on the weather for me, so the cooler weather actually makes for good sparring because you can comfortably layer up for protection. For hands and face I always use hockey gloves and a fencing mask for full on sparring, at a minimum. A basic epee mask can be pretty inexpensive, and hockey/lacrosse gloves you can get on sale or clearance for very reasonable prices.

I'm usually comfortable with whatever I'm wearing, but when I'm doing some hardcore spinning or dulon practice alone, I'll generally wear a loose, light t-shirt and baggy sweatpants. Sometimes a D-ring belt if I want a bit of extra weight, or if I want to look like a badass.

  • And of course I'm happy to spar with you. You're freshly out of combat, your reactions are sharp. I've been sitting idle for quite a while—I need the test."

i wear a set of 5.11 tactical taclite2 patrol gloves

they are the ones that i wear with my CW Arrow / Green Arrow costumes since they are screen accurate.

Super thin, very comfortable. For shoes rather than normal runners, i have a pair of lace up kung fu shoes called huli warriors.

Usually sweat pants and a tshirt, sometimes a hoodie if im training outside at night and its a bit chilly.
