Hi guys!

I've been a lightsaber dueler for years. I usually fight with only one or two lightsabers (dual wield style), using various styles with both of those configurations. But recently, I started paying more attention to an old dream of mine: Get, and learn how to properly fight with a double-bladed Lightsaber (Saberstaff if you prefer). I've seen a couple videos where some duelers armed with a staff are fighting one or two opponents at the same time. It's nice to reproduce movements, but I'm not learning at all how to properly fight by only copying moves. I'm always hesitating on what movement to make when facing a certain situation, and it's sad!

All this is leading me to ask, does anyone here is or knows someone who's good at manipulating those beauties? Or maybe someone here knows a website or some video tutorials on how to learn how to use a saber staff? That would be AWESOME!!!

Might not be the answer you're looking for, but you might want to look into Martial Arts. I've been doing Chito Ryu Karate (funny enough, it means way of the empty hands, so there aren't any weapons used) for seven years, and it's helped me become a decent duelist.

I know Shotokan Karate uses the Bo staff a lot, which could really help with saber staff fighting.

If you don't want to take up a martial art, I would suggest youtube videos on using a Bo staff, or watch videos of Satelle Shan fighting ;)

That would be a great idea indeed!

About Satele, it's her videos, like the one where her master and Her are fighting against Malgus and His master, that increased my love of this type of lightsaber. There's awesome moves in this video, both from Satele and from Malgus' master.

The problem is not that I can't learn from looking at videos, but I don't really have the chance to try what I see in a real fight, since the duelers I used to fight with are now more than 350km away from me! But your martial idea is very interesting! I'll give it a look for sure! Never thought about that one haha!

Yea the SWTOR cinematics are absolutely stunning! I wish we could get a movie with the same quality! And Satele looks so awesome when she's fighting Malgus on Alderaan!

I've loved double blades ever since Darth Maul. They're just expensive. Haha but yeah whenever I played star wars games I always did the double blade thing except on SWTOR.

Yea having to buy two blades vs one probably turns off a lot of people. SF should definitely introduce a saber with blade openings at each end. Of course you would need lighting for each blade, but only one sound module.

I definitely hope to buy another resiliant later on for a staff!

It's expensive indeed. They said during the last few months that they were planning on creating premade staffs for a lesser cost. Never heard of it since then... For exemple, a Warrior Edition Sinister Prophecy saberstaff with 12W LEDS (like, exactly what I want) starts around 480$. Minus the 12W LEDS, it's still 420$! A champion edition would be better, because you wouldn't be forced to separate both sabers everytime you want to recharge the batteries. It's a pain in the ass, but for now, that's the only option we have!

MystByte: When you're going to buy your second resiliant, make sure to ask them if your new saber will have the same thread pitch as your older one... Otherwise, you wont be able to make it into a staff without buying a third saber that would fit. I know that because it happened to me a week ago. I received my second Epoch and SURPRISE... Can't connect them together... (there was a two months difference between both orders). So I paid a lightsaber for almost nothing since I unpacked it and tried to connect it... I just don't wish that to anyone, so make sure before ordering!

As a black belt of Shotokan, I say go for it. Another good style to try to use for saberstaff is Kobodu. There is a kata called Shushi No Kon that has a very Darth Maul-ish move towards the end (that i fangirled over when i saw it). If you want i can send you a video with the bunkai (analysis of what each move is for). It also has a 6 step sequence in it for basic sparring.

Hey Darth,
Here are a few quick references off the top of my head.

http://www.blackbeltwiki.com/martial-arts-weapons dig around on this site there is quite a bit.

There is a book by Dwight McLemore called the fighting staff. i have it and it is excellent, all of his stuff is. Wonderful illustrations that are really easy to follow.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Fighting-Staff-Dwight-McLemore/dp/1581607148

this book is supposed to be excellent, but due to it being out of print and a high price, I do not have it.
http://www.amazon.com/Fighting-Quarterstaff-David-Lindholm/dp/1891448366/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1447451156&sr=1-3&keywords=quarterstaff

this is a decent primer, and the guy is hilarious.

as a general rule, just look up quarterstaff or bo staff techniques or fighting and it should be applicable. that being said, most of the european rooted stuff ends up using it like a spear, so perhaps the asian stuff will be better for a lightsaber. historically speaking, there are precious few double bladed weapons.

Sorry to double post but had another look and managed to find this which I looked at a while back.

It's a very long vid but covers both dual wielding and saber staff.

I wonder if Justin over at their custom shop could make you a custom coupler with one of each thread pitch to attach them together with sound vents for you. It might be worth shooting him an email.

That video was exceedingly informative for me, as I intend to dual wield sabers later on. It gave me a good idea of how to utilize dual blades when up until now I've been getting in my own way and blocking with no way to counterattack.
