Okay, I've seen questions about gear previously but none specifically about gloves. I've seen a few different options but the biggest suggestion has been hockey/lacrosse gloves so far.

I personally would want something with padding but that still allows for good movement and spinning. The lacrosse gloves seem to bulky in that regard but I've only tried them on once without a saber hilt in hand. Does anyone have a good suggestion or suggestions towards hand protection that doesn't encumber movement?

I've found that a cheaper pair of short cuff, summer motorbike gloves work well. Can be kind of difficult to find a pair that fits and allows the movement but i was lucky enough that i had quite a few pairs lying around :)

These are what I actually use for dueling...

Airsoft armored back gloves. Work like a CHARM. And allow plenty of dexterity. They just don't work with any type of cosplay I want to do... lol. :(

I like my heavy duty biking gloves because my 'duelling partner' is my 5 yo brother..who aims for shins and hands..and does not realise just how much it hurts lol :P

Both sound like good alternatives to the bulky lacrosse styled gloves I've seen. If I can find some that work well with leather demi-guantlets I'd be very happy.

It will mostly be for cosplay and my roommate is getting a saber/costume in as well. We want to choreograph duels at some point but in case we miss or for when we spar good gloves are a must :p.

for sparring id definitely the bike gloves wit full finger protection, the way the 'armour' is on the back of the fingers it'll stop you staving your fingers, whereas choreography you would probably get away with less protection and more freedom to move about :)

Awesome like I said I'll look into some with the full finger protection :). I think the biggest difference between the bike gloves and airsoft would be the amount of padding on the back! I plan to couple those with a gauntlet like this, or similar.

The airsoft gloves have a really hard shell on the back to protect (intended for, anyway) against launched projectiles... lol. Speaking from personal experience you can barely feel a blade when it smacks the back of your hand with them on. Like, you're aware it happens, sure, but no pain whatsoever. Doesn't even bother my grip.

Here's what I wear when fencing: http://www.fullsource.com/dewalt-dpg20m/?size=3&gclid=cjwkeajw56mobrd8_4-agooqhv4sjadwwvcc4j6yp-7uazw-gnaeluhbys7s0bc8kez2bhik8ah1rboc0r_w_wcb

Good balance of protection and flexibility. I haven't had any problems with taking a hit off the hands or wrist while wearing them.

As stupid as it might seem, I usually duel with my Revan's armor gloves on! The top of the hand is armored, so I'm safe! Plus, design doesn't modify my grip and my dexterity... In fact, they're offering me a better grip, which is nice!

I had never thought to try gloves till i heard people here talking so i put on my joe rocket motor cycle gloves and they work well! Handle bars are similar size to saber, dexterity is excellent and fully armoured! Plus if your opponent gets to close you can knock him or her out with a right cross!

I found these on the Canadian Amazon, only about 4x more expensive haha. Thankfully there seems to be a Canadian alternative brand that sells an almost identical pair.

From what I've read some people are complaining that the "armor" breaks easily. Can you speak to this at all?

@liberator: I've played airosft for a few years and brought my gear to its limits quite a few times. Never had troubles with the back armour on the hands. Note that I did buy a very strong item, usually used by (as told by my military brother) the French Special Forces. The pair I used is not sold anymore, but here's a similar item. Only notable difference, mine did not cover the whole fingers, the last phalange (phalanx?) was in the open.

These ones are cheaper and I reckon they could be used in cosplaying.
