Is it possible to mount a champion tier saber to a wall with magnets without damaging the electronics? I have a lot of cool ideas in regards to mounting, displaying, and cosplaying using magnets. Is this a good idea? Will it work?

Magnets don't hurt electronics. They only interference with other magnetic fields (magnetic card stripes and the magnetic platters in Hard Disk Drives being common examples).

I'm not familiar with the construction of champion soundboards, but if they use ball bearing motion sensors, magnets might interference with those sensors. Won't impact the firnware or soundfont storage though.

Most desktop speakers have multiple drivers within inches of each other without issue. Could always play it safe and stick the mounting magnet up by the emitter. Maybe on the body in the gap between soundboard and switches.

That would be a better option. Not sure how strong/weak the magnets for the speakers are. Just wanted to mention it really, wasn't sure if it would matter. I will not test to find out the hard way, that's certain.

I have to wonder if your idea will work, since SF hits are made from aluminium which is a non-ferrous metal, so it won't be attracted by magnets.
I am chaos in order's guise.

I believe the idea here was to use a magnet attached externally to the hilt. The hilt itself obviously won't stick to a magnet, and a magnet inside of it would probably not work either due to the hilt acting as a Faraday cage.

Incidentally, the dangers of magnets to hard drives are vastly overstated. The coercivity of hard drive platters are remarkably high; add in that a hard drive's case also acts as a Faraday cage, and you need an absurdly large magnetic field to affect one. Neodymium magnets have been common in laptops for well over a decade (not even counting the ones INSIDE a hard drive).

Definitely a good point, Vexing. My idea was to permanently attach magnets to the hilt with epoxy and/or screws, but if Greywolfe's plan was to just hold the hilt up to a magnetic surface, that's not going to work very well at all.

Oh yeah Vexing I hadn't thought of that. Hmmmmm well then this may become more difficult than I originally thought. Back to the drawing board I suppose. Lol
