I am looking to buy, or build if necessary, a saber that will be exposed to the weather 3-4 months continuously. I would like to hard wire the power supply so it could be lit (as part of a sign) approximately 12 hours a day. Am I nuts? Is there a tutorial posted somewhere addressing something like this? Thankyou in advance

That doesn't seem that difficult to me. Saber is no different than any other light sorce. If it's being built to be part of a sign a transformer for voltage and lots of silicone should do the trick!

And if you can't use silicone on some tricky parts, see if you can't use "plomber tape" (self vulcanising tape?). It resists from -50° C to +200° C something (in Fahrenheit, that's from -50F to +450F, has a really long stocking life (that's why you should always have some at your place) and is easy to put around the screw thread :)

actually I understand the weatherproofing, better than the durability of the electronics. We have been building these things for awhile (outdoor displays). However a new display involving a light saber has been brought up. The saber itself will be mounted quite high and will not likely be able to be serviced more than seasonally. The the most pressing question I guess would be, would the standard lights/electronics, be sufficient to the task of continuous use for 3-4 months of 12hr on 12hr off

Well just buy any empty hilt and get a blade and use some kind of low voltage outdoor lighting, or stuff some Christmas tree lights in the blade.Your experience in buildings outdoor displays should make this a relatively simple task don't you think. Apprentice hilts Initiate Teir are like $50. and a blade will cost $30. or less depending on what kind you get. Personally there is no need to hang a dueling blade on a sign so there may be less expensive options out there .
Good luck
