Okay, possible stupid question here, but I was just wondering... is it possible to power three of the Saberforge 6watt LED modules off of 3 AAAs?

I have the blasphemous idea to try to build a crossguard saber using the sound card out of my ForceFX Kylo to provide the sound and delayed side-emitter ignition (kind of sideways engineering DarthMario's conversion method), but I don't know how having that many LED modules would alter the power required.

I would think it's possible, since the Saberforge crossguards run a 12W and two 6Ws off of a single 18650, but I don't know if one of those pushes enough volts to power the sound card.

Input? Advice? Telling me this is a bad idea and I should feel bad? Feel free to chime in.

A custom hilt built by you? If so why not use all electronics from Force Fx Kylo?

Go to You Tube and check out Plecter labs or Niagon Industry. Great tutorials and general education on electronics for sabers.

Because it's going to take at least one LED module to replace the LED string for the main blade, and there's a weird part of my brain that wants to go with Cyan Mint Green blades.

EDIT: Was just looking at pictures of the color I was thinking about, and apparently I was confusing Mint Green and Cyan, somehow.

It will be possible to run 3x6W modules from a 3AAA, but the batteries wouldn't last very long.

I doubt that the Kylo Ren Soundboard would be able to cope with that current drain. I wouldn't know the specs for the Hasbro soundcard, but with 3x6W modules you'll want to provide the LEDs with a total of up to 6 Amps.

A Nano Biscotte for example (in it's standard configuration without PEX hack) is designed to supply 2A to the main LED. Like I say, I don't know what the Hasbro Kylo Soundboard can handle but I doubt it'll be 6 Amps.
I imagine Shameem will have some answers for you...

Another question would be, "Why do you need to use a 6W module for the small sideblades?" Wouldn't that be a bit overkill? I imagine that having sideblades so short and bright would detract from the main blade, especially further down the length of the blade. I'm pretty sure you'd be happy with the brightness from a 3 or even a 1W side blade.

... I honestly hadn't even thought of that.

Gonna level with you fellas, I haven't done this before and I'm still just kind of spitballing at this point. Still tying to get an idea of whether the card would even work for this, and putting together a parts list.

So, glaringly obvious stuff like that isn't quite so obvious to me, which is why I asked y'all. :P

Thank you for reminding me that smaller LED modules exist, Takamatsu. I honestly did just brain fart the hell out of that one.

Honestly, at this point, I'm really thinking of just doing what Otto said and replacing the main blade LED string with a 6W, and just leave the rest of the electronics stock as much as possible. Will probably need to replace the battery carriage and get a different speaker, though, since I'm planning to cram everything in a different hilt.

But yeah, no point in getting over-complicated the first time out, right?
