Hey all..
was just curious of what the dueling scene is really like around my parts (central/western New York) I hear whispers of groups and tournaments and such, but never have seen anything around.
Yoda: [still looking at Luke] He is too old. Yes. Too old to begin the training.

Luke Skywalker: But I've learned so much.

Good luck, I didn't have much success here in Colorado.

Locally your best bet might be to check into any local Kendo, fencing, or martial art schools in general. Some of them have some lightsaber fencing programs, or may just have some folks who attend that are also into saber combat.

Yeah, I suppose I'm not really expecting to find anything all that official or large scale.

I'm more wondering if there is anything more.. underground. Figure there has to be with all the people getting these sabers lately.

To keep things lighthearted, you have to remember that there are seven billion people on this planet, and 320 million people in the US alone. In the grand scheme of things, the amount of sabers sold is tiny.

But I'm not trying to be a negative nelly. Try starting your own little group, that would draw people I'm sure.

I mean yeah true...

I know of people already I guess,
And I'm making some of my other friends get into it too.

I'll have to create a new Jedi temple haha

Hi Kenjimoon, Master Eddlyss,

If I were USA based I would have done my best to help out, but for now I'm still stuck on the Outer Rim of the UK. And there's even fewer Saber enthusiasts within travelling distance round here. I think the nearest to me is a long standing forum member, Count Arkanus, but he doesn't post much here now :(

Have faith and may the force be with you

You will find like minded souls if the force wills it.

Maybe start here with this cosplay group and local members can direct you. The NY/NJ chapter name is Echo Base.

Rebel Legion and 501st will require you to have an approved costume to join, but the guys and gals are usually VERY friendly and eager to help and answer questions. They may have some folks who do saber fighting, although I know in my local chapters most of the "jedi" and "sith" are just Cosplayers and don't really do any real fighting.

That's too bad. The way I see it, if you're carrying a cosplay weapon, especially a lightsaber, you should know how to use it. Maybe that's my samurai mentality poking out. :P
