I like Kerbal Space Program, and I like lightsabers. This was inevitable at some point.

Unfortunately, it seems that the thin-neck wasn't properly fixed in place. :P

Needs moar struts.

Hey, by the way, is this a "phone" topic for everyone else? What does that mean? How do I not do that?

Awesome! I tried Kerbal once but it was too smart for me.
How well does a lightsaber fly then?
For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.

It flies like a rock. On the other hand, there's no engine attached to it, so it wouldn't. I think I'll make one with an engine to see how well that works though.

KSP does have a bit of a learning curve (read: learning wall) but the new version has some new tutorials that may not be as much wall-of-text as they used to be. Maybe. If not, if you still want to try it, there's always Scott Manley's YouTube channel.

Make the emitter an engine. That would look authentic. the control box can be the cockpit.

I'm going to do that next. I'll probably do a different saber, though.
This post will be edited to include the results.

EDIT1: ...Tomorrow. Wings seems perfecly reasonable. Fairings are a great tool. I'll post the next Sabercraft in the morning, unexpected factors notwithstanding. This one actually has an engine, though it's about as useful in-atmo as a blue LED in a red day blade.

EDIT2: Okay, this one has en engine. But it doesn't work very well in-atmo. I'm gonna try something else when I get back from school.

Rocket Reborn-

Great, now I need KerbPaint again. It's been out of date for years, but I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I'll post pics of me flying it after a school day. :P

Turns out I got my lightsaber back today. I'll still do more of this, just not now. I'll do it laterish.

Okay! The Reborn's journey to space! I hope you enjoy.

I'll post these over a couple of posts, because of the limit on links.

So there's a lightsaber with an engine for an emitter. the blade isn't too bright, though. :P

I'll still be doing these, but it's not a high priority. Maybe a Juggernaut sometime.

Huh, that is pretty neat, had no idea you could make SF hilts that accurate on KSP.

That thing you made is really cool RyanRising. You should be proud of that achievement. Mate, Well Done. The proposed Juggernaut to follow will be interesting to see.

Thanks! I've already started thinking about it. The "wings" will be made of wings, but that means they'll have to be more angular...

Thanks! I selected this hilt because I thought it would be easy to make it somewhat accurate. My Luke isn't as accurate as this, nor (probably) will be any other hilts I make. Emitter shrouds, for example, would be really tough to do right.

So.. a stupid question and hoping for a not so stupid answer, What Program is that you use to 'launch' these things that you make? It also looks like a process that would require a lot of patience and effort to complete.

Hand's Up if you're feeling stupid. *raises both hands* yeah, just made a realisation and answered my own question. Time to go I think, carry on. :P

Question Ryan, how long does it take you to make one of these on KSP? And how do they do for long length exploration. Sorta off topic with that last part but still curious.

I have no idea on that first count, as time seems to lose meaning while I'm playing.

Neither do I know what you're asking with the last question. If you mean a long-term mission with the saber in orbit, this one has a few solar panels, which should keep it going for an indefinite period. If you mean length as in distance, I doubt these sabers could get farther than Kerbin's SOI.
...
Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd type.

That is exactly what I meant, long term mission. And thanks for answering that question.
