The arrow in the knee bit is a reference to the elder scrolls video games.

Something like "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee"

Arrow to the knee is actually Nordic slang for getting married, too. Cause you kneel on one to propose, they used to say it was like taking an arrow in the knee.. lol. Which us how skyrim used it sarcastically as well, to great effect.

Yay random trivia!!

That's pretty funny I played morrowind, oblivion and skyrim but I never heard the saying but then when I made characters I always ended up with a completely wild uncontrollable Orc that everyone hated...those were the days. The games were insanely weak though by Orc standards. I never met a match for my trusty two handed weapons especially the war hammer. Killing dragons was laughable.

I don't know if many people took the Orc seriously enough when making characters. I don't remember ever talking anyone into trying one everyone else I knew was busy collecting alchemy ingredients and and reading books. I never bothered with that stuff at all too slow and boring. My orcs never read books and were completely self-driven storylines...I did some quests that sounded cool but avoid using the shouts as much as possible. The worst was finding characters I couldn't kill it really messed with my version of playing the game.
