I am trying to figure out how to wire my own lightsaber but don't know enough about wiring to do so. Is a resistor only used for the blade led or do you have to figure everything else the saber will be running?

If the latter, I am running a 12w led unit from saber forge,a nano bisc. sound card, a 2w speaker, and a 16mm anti vandal momentary switch (will momentary work with a sound card without a recharge port?)

I need help understanding what battery type I should choose (AA or 9volt etc) and what kind of resistor.

Please help! And thank you!

If replying here doesn't work for you email me at jacob.dodd7@ gmail.com

For battery I would go with a 18650, they're rechargeable and pretty cheap (about 10$-15$) as far as the other questions. I'm not quite sure. I'd like to learn how to do installs myself. But the 18650 batteries awe what saber forge uses for they're champion/ her tiers. Find one with a high mah

I've just installed NB and 2W bass speaker in my Juggernaut.
Switches used for SF sabers are 12mm, and if you will use 3.7V Li-ion 186500(SF default battery), 170ohm resistor is needed for lit switch.

Yeah, most people would use a NCR18650B batter nowadays.

Also bear in mind that to run the 12W at full power you may need to do the NB+PEx hack to be able to get the required current to the LEDs.

The NB board is designed for use with a momentary switch.

OMG I don't know that fact!
I didn't use power extender, but it was bright enough.
You say I couldn't see the genuine brightness of 12w LED?

Well, without the "hack" then I believe the NB board is only capable of providing 2amps of current to the LED.

For full 12W brightness I believe you'll be wanting 4amps total (1000mA per die) .... although I could be wrong and you might want to wait until someone with more experience chimes in as I've never used or wired up a saberforge 12W unit so haven't read up fully but I believe they use cree XB-D LEDs.

Thanks Takamatsu!
I'll do further investigation for this problem.

So if we want to replace the switch on the ASP sabers with an iluminated av swich, would it just be a straight swap for a 12mm switch?

Yeah if you have warrior tier, switch hole sizes are completely same as 12mm lit switch.
Just put and glue it.

Cool thanks! And you don't need a resistor? I assume without a kill key the light ring stays iluminated as long as the batteries are in?

Yes, you need 170 ohm resistor.
And kill key equipment is recommended because of the reason you mentioned.
There is a wiring way that lit switch go off during deep sleap, but it didn't work well in my case.
Warrior tier has two holes, you may easily equip recharge port too, I guess.

Can someone help me with the math (as I'm trying to understand the circuitry behind it all)? The power source is a 3.7v li-ion battery and the led on the switch has a forward voltage of 3.0 and runs at 20ma.

According to this tutorial, the resistance should be (voltage supply - forward voltage) / current. That gives us (3.7 - 3.0) / 0.02 = 35 ohms. But above, it's mentioned than a 170 ohm resistor is needed. What just happened and where did my math go wrong?

Your maths is correct...

Assuming that you're correct about the forward voltage and the current of the LED in the switch (I can't say that I've seen or checked a datasheet) then yes 35ohms is correct. In that case I think the closest suitable resistor available will be a 39ohms.

I would've thought that the red LED ring would have a lower forward voltage than 3V, closer to 2V but that would all vary depending on which switch/manufaturer etc you're using.
