Hey all!

I was considering getting an Acolyte, but I don't think I could afford to get the saber with sound included.

How easy/hard is it to add this myself at a later date? Is it even possible?

I'm pretty sure that if you buy an initiate or warrior level hilt and want to upgrade it at a later time, you can send it in to SF and they'll do it for you
Own:
- SF 12W Green Champion Guardian
- SF Reborn DT
- Graflex 2.0

I do believe Iano42 is correct about this. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in

I Believe the other members are correct you could send it back to them and pay for it to be upgraded.

Apprentice sabers would be harder to do because of the smaller hilts, there was a discussion recently on that topic Best DIY Hilt

As far as doing it your self as long as you are decent with a soldering iron, heat shrink and good with you hands then it would not be too hard to do yourself many people have wiring diagrams showing how to do it for every sound card you can think of. For your first time i would pick a simple sound card more basic like their saber-core soundboard, Naigon's spark, Plecter labs Nano Biscotte, or Petit Crouton they would be easier for first time. If you did get a 12w warrior you would be set with the Li-on battery you would need for upgrading sound.

Thanks for the advice!

I... never have sodered anything before, or messed around with electronics boards sans building my PC, so I'm at a disadvantage there.

I might just save a bit more and pick up one with the sound.

Thanks all!

The Apprentice sabers are harder for DIY because they are machined as one single piece, plus threaded pommel, so there are fewer access points to get in and instal electronics. They are also thinner, as others have mentioned.

You can definitely send in your initiate/warrior saber to SaberForge and have it upgraded to champion or hero. Price would be $180 for champion upgrade, $300 for hero upgrade. And I think the cupon "celebration" (10% off order) is still good if you're getting a saber soon, but don't quote me on that
