You'll need to sand the hilt down. Maybe grab some aluminum primer. Perhaps adhesion promoter.

It's possible, sure, but paint just doesn't stick very well to aluminum, so it takes a lot of prep.

Can you spray paint on a saber hilt? Yes. Will it adhere and look good? Depends on what you use and how you prep and seal it.

The hilt will need to be free of oil (like from your hands) and debris, the proper paint will need to be used (look for the kinds that are meant for autobody and metal applications), and if you don't won't it rubbing off it will need to be sealed.

Here's a TCSS video about weathering sabers with spray paint, and will help illustrate what needs to be done:

Another thing to consider is that the paint may affect the texture and the feel of the saber.

I spray painted some of my sabers a few time, adding some gold accents. It's pretty easy to do. The only downside is: It doesn't last. You need to add a finish layer or something like that in order to prevent the paint from scratching away. I've had to paint my Reliant 2-3 Times while I had it to keep the gold effect on properly! Hope this helps!
