Hello folks.
I've recently been wanting to build an indigo laser module (7W NUBM44 450nm diode 25mm diameter module) into a lightsaber hilt. I asked over at "the company that shall not be named", but they failed to help me in any way.
Ideally, the hilt should be the Reborn, dual-tone.
However, this all depends on whether it fits the plans I have made.
I need to know a few things:
- What is the inner diameter of the hilt? Ideally it should be greater than 27mm (in order to fit two 26650 batteries) or 33mm (for 32650s.)
- What is the diameter of the blade holder? Ideally exactly 25mm, or very slightly more.
- Is it possible to order dual-tone Reborn parts with the inside and threading NOT anodized? This is something that MUST be done, otherwise the project is not possible.
- Is it possible to disassemble the Initiate Reborn into four pieces, as if they were all ASP parts?

Thanks,
Dan

Blade holder and switch section IDs are ~26mm (1" blades fit freely)

Body section ID is ~28mm.

You won't be able to separate an Initiate hilt - the components are glued together.

It's also impossible to have a dual-tone hilt without the inside anodized. You'll need to order a Silver-finished hilt or Silver-finished ASP components. Everything else will have black-anodized internals.

Thank you Kouri. I
I suppose I will buy ASP parts, but there is no Reborn Pommel. Which one is the closest to the Reborn pommel? I would prefer a pommel that is as close to filled as possible.
From the images, the Silver finished components appear to have a powder coating of some kind. Is this correct? If so, will it interfere with electrical conductivity? If you have a multimeter you can check the resistance of it.

Also - are weathered ASP components anodized on the inside?

I'm afraid that I can't help you with the measurements you need. But I've seen this a few times now, and you can say the names of other sabersmiths here. Last I checked, we had a forum section that serves no purpose but to show off sabers from other companies. Now, of course advertising isn't allowed, and I suppose you can't link to anywhere else, but you can sure talk about them!

Okay, rant over. You can go on back to your thread.
The above post may be subject to editing. A lot of editing.

No coating at all on the silver parts - that's just a slight texture from the casting process. It's less obvious (but still there) on the Black parts, and gets sanded off on Two-Tone parts.

Closest pommel will be Dissident or Vengeance.

Thank you folks.
Kouri, are you sure that the ID of the Reborn body is exactly 28mm? If so I will go ahead and purchase it.

Good, good... Let the current flow through you! :P

I'll go ahead and buy it. Is the lead time for Initiate hilts significantly less than that of a full saber?

Stands to reason since it doesn't require electronics to be installed however an email to SFCS will return more accuracy. Actually I'd suggest you send an email prior to Ordering anyway, measure twice-cut once principle.
Found in the FAQs..

It is very possible Policy may have changed so best to clarify from the source. Depending on your ultimate setup and the number of switch holes that will benefit you, it just takes an email.

Thanks. Just one more thing, where exactly is the blade retention screw on the Reborn?

  You likely could have answered this query yourself by going to SF Main Site.

One single blade retention on the second recessed groove. Use the location of the 'pointed-to' for reference. Mine's a little different as I have Custom Milled Windows in those recessed grooves so the default retention was deleted and relocated. Also, I have three so it's symmetrical but also I had a plan to use low-profile thumbscrews but primarily requested 3 for uniform blade stability.

Thanks, this should work. I've purchased it.
Still wondering about the lead time for initiate vs. full saber. They haven't responded to me yet.

Oregon City (should) = Saturday now. Depending on when you sent the query, give them a couple of days but if I had to take a punt, expect a reply come Tuesday (USA Time). As for the lead time, gonna take another punt and reckon they'll come back with 'as what the Site FAQ's write' of the 'estimated' 8-12 and plug shopsaberparts for a quicker supply. But as it's a punt, every likelihood I backed the wrong horse and you'll get a more accurate approximate.
