I wanted to delve further into the recently "accepted" canon story line and received the remaining books I required as a Christmas gift. I have them all in chronological order along with the animated episodes of TCW and Rebels thrown in-line to complete set (time-line).

I started at TPM in the middle of January and am already more than half way through ROTS, so I nearly completed 4 books since; I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying the read.

I like how the books based on the films often set up the situation before and after the scene seen on screen (say that 10x fast). Especially when you can picture the scene in your head from the film, but then get that extra bit as you read what happens before and after it. You also get the omniponent glimpses into the hearts and minds of the characters that brings out more of the story and feeling.

Some of the writing I've encountered through the books so far is hit and miss. I found TPM to be written rather poorly. Dark Disciple was well written and with shorter length chapters made it seem like I was able to read it at a full sprint and finished it in a handful of days. I also like how it brings other characters to the forefront.

I look forward to reading the rest of these as they begin to add great depth of story long ago from a galaxy far, far away. I encourage others who may be interested to read the books as well =)

I am trying to get caught up on my Star Wars reading, but I have to be in a "reading" kind of mood, and now is just not one of those times. I did get through "A New Dawn" recently, and I have "Lost Stars", "Aftermath" and "The Force Awakens" for when the mood does strike again.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Well just to warn you, the book aftermath is written horribly. It was painful, but the outline is intriguing. The book Lost Stars is the best I've read in this " New Canon". Long Live the EU!!! All hail THRAWN ;)

I know what you mean about the "reading mood". I was re-reading another set of books I have and I haven't picked it up since the 4th book long before christmas and haven't read anything in the couple months after that.
As I started this series mid January. I crushed a few books quickly, then found some sections of ROTS to drag for no reason and have been half way through this book for what seems to be a couple of weeks now. I only picked it back up a few days ago and went through some more chapters today as well.
Sometimes I need to create the mood to read rather than wait for it =)

For what it's worth the outline and direction of Aftermath show potential. Just a bad Author, better than me. Though I am Strongly Biased towards the old EU B)

I think the authors are screwed for the most part. As they will not be able to do a book with the depth of the Thrawn trilogy. At best the end of EP9 might open it up, but my guess is we will have another trilogy starting in 6-8 years

Yeah.
It's hard to say where it's going to go. It appears the "canon" story follows the Skywalker bloodline too much. It's going to need something drastic to take it in another direction and allow the story to blossom into something larger than one family fucking up the galaxy for a few generations.

LMAO. Well the Skywalkers' can do that in every alternate universe. Honestly, I would like to see the next trilogy go way back to the first conflict between Jedi and Sith. Drop the Rey story for atleast a decade. Come back and she's now a big part of the new jedi? Basically taking Lukes' place from the old EU. I really think a SW trilogy set in a "KOTOR" time frame would really open things up

Hi NeBosa,

At the risk of sounding like a dumb Bantha, may I ask which site/list you used to compile your collection? I have searched for a list but wasn't sure which was the most authoritive.

Thanks in advance,

For Tyeth

most definitely one of the two^^

I compiled the list a while ago and wrote it down on a note pad I keep near my desk, that way I wouldn't need to refer to the site every time I wanted to recall the list and that way I could also scratch one off of it as I obtained one of the books. It was fairly easy to find though and I know you train well in the art of google-fu.

Honestly, I would like to see the next trilogy go way back to the first conflict between Jedi and Sith.
I suspect that the mythology is moving away from the Jedi/Sith dichotomy. The majority of the new canon is suggesting a much more diverse universe of force users who work outside of the Jedi/Sith worldview. If you take the time to watch the "Rebel Recon" youtube vids on the Star Wars channel Pablo Hidalgo, Disney's/Lucafilm's continuity meister, talks about this on more than one occasion. Since TFA dropped the Sith this seems to further indicate that the SW story group is moving away from the EU obsession with the Jedi/Sith rivalry which, frankly, was beginning to get fatiguing.

For those Thrawn fans supposedly

NeBosa, you neglecting the comic side of things? Those stories are canon too and many of them are better than the prose novels.

Thanks!
I've had the Sid for a couple of months now, attempted on two occasions to trade it then I considered selling it and I had some attractive offers on it at that time. However, in the end I decided to keep it (thankfully) and am actually sending it away this weekend to SCSS for an install.

Finished reading ROTS last night.

Man, the duel with Sidious against Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin was crazy!!

It felt like the book lingered longer than necessary in some instances. It strayed a bit from the film also which helped to make it its own and now to me the film feels like a revised, shortened 'made for the screen' version. Overall the book was a good read.

Now on to the next one.

Without a doubt.
You're able to get across more than having time slot constraints.
Also, the books are not PG13.
