So the other week i went to see Episode 7 for the fourth time and thought, you know what? Ill spend a few extra bucks and see it in 3D. I wasn't disappointed!. But the one thing that i couldn't help but notice is Rey's staff.

After the tips of it caught my attention in its first appearance, Something about it just wouldn't stop bugging me. After i got home and i was halfway insane from trying to figure why it nagged at me so much for whatever reason i happened to pull up the end of Episode 1 my eyes went immediately to Mauls staff lightsaber and it clicked. The ends of Rey's staff look very closely like the emitters of Mauls lightsaber!

Yep, but they also resemble the electro-staffs used by the body guard droids in the later seasons of clone wars.!

Well, we knew she took debris from the wreckage from the ships to sell. Maybe she took parts of other weapons and turned into her own

The anticipation is comparable to waiting for a saber to arrive.

Hi all,

When I read TFA Easter Egg I thought you meant the sound effect of the rolling boulder from Raiders of the Lost Ark!

Oh well, the Maul parts also look like Mace Windu's original saber's pommel, from some photos I've seen.

well, it's not uncommon for sci fi movies to re-use parts of props in other things to save some cash. Parts of Maul's saber ended up in a few places in the prequels, I think Plo Koon's lightsaber used maul's emitter for the pommel component as well? I just assumed those were mass produced, easy to obtain electronics for Star Wars haha.

Head on down to Saber Shack for your saber building needs for wires and casing! The employees are paid minimum, know nothing and care less!

Other recycled pieces is Bossk's space suit and IG-88's head in the OT.
Last Edit: 5 months 1 week ago by Zeddicuus. Reason: mispelling of Plo Koon so bad C-3P0 couldn't pronounce it.

I really hope, given her proficiency with a staff, that when Rey gets her own Lightsaber she will use a double.

I read and understood that Abrams isn't going to direct the last two movies. Anyone else read something like that? Plus I hope the next two Jedi have better outfits. Luke has never warn the traditional Jedi garb. Only for the last shot of him looking out in the distance before Rey hands him his first LS back to him. It's like he raided Obi-wan's closet. LOL

Yep. Rian Johnson is directing VIII and Colin Trevorrow is directing IX.

I think it would make sense for Rey to move to a double sided lightsaber...BUT Ray Park was(is) a badass martial artist so he pulled it off even though it is not a very practical weapon style. Daisy Ridley has at least a year to train so maybe she can at least be good enough to do some fancy choreography. I can't wait to find out, though.

Hi Darth Tenac,

Speaking of training did anyone else spot Luke's training remote droid from A New Hope rolling around in some clutter on the floor of the Falcon? I think that was meant as an Easter Egg.

I did notice that on my first viewing. I also really appreciated that the Falcon had the same targeting systems from ANH. You can just call me Flops lol. Darth Tenac was mostly whimsical self-amusement.

Daisy Ridley's stunt double is very accomplished with a staff, so you never know. There's a demo video of her training with it some where. I'll see if I can find it.

Speaking of Easter Eggs and references, here's a video that covers a lot of stuff (45 minutes!) from TFA that I know I missed during my two viewings of the movie:

I forgot about stunt doubles. I used to be able to spot doubles really easily, but now they just CGI an actor's face on the double. So I reckon Rey could do the staff convincingly after all.

I doubt they'll do that seeing as the trend for the new episodes seems to be going with old-school practical effects. You can really tell when CGI is faking things. They'd be fools to veer off the narrow path now.

While the preference for TFA was to do practical effects when it was....practical to do so, there were still more digital effects shots in it, than in the Prequel movies. The difference was that they were used to enhance scenes, rather than create them entirely, which is when it works the best IMHO.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....
