All sabers can live together under the same roof. The saber is not the thing that defines a light or dark side user it is more happenstance and preferred colors that the light and dark side split down. The color lines are more due to what crystals were available to them and the type of construction they had the knowledge to use.

That being said can someone point me at a good resource to look into the grey Jedi? I'm a bit confused by them.
The way I have always seen it the Jedi and Sith are force traditions, basically religions that hate each other and persecuted anyone using the force that does not belong to their own group. There are a large number of other force traditions that used to be cannon in the EU but I don't remember grey being one of them. Some examples of other force traditions are: the force witches, the Jensaarai, the sorcerers of tund, the Ysanna and a number of others. Each use the force in ways similar to the Jedi/Sith but basically had their own religion and path and eventually were found by the Jedi or Sith and persecuted to extinction or at least hiding to the point they are thought to be extinct.

I personally have always loved the story of the Jenaasarai.

Hi all,

To BoostinIX, ask and you shall receive..

Sorry to interrupt, now back to the topic...

for my two cents, I feel as an enthusiast/collector there is no distinction between Light/Dark they are sabers, each having merits to owning them. I as For Tyeth, am a Jedi, so would look a little odd with a Sith blade, but I look odd anyway!

kind regards,

For Tyeth

What about a hybrid saber? Since the crystals are imbued with the force....what would a dual crystal saber be, with both sides inside it?

Hi BoostinIX,

I'm not fully up to speed with the new Disney canon regarding crystals but as has been mentioned by Artair, the crystals attain their colour and Jedi/Sith properties through the meditation process during Lightsaber construction. A dual crystal Saber would probably be very rare and may not even work.

1) One description of a dual crystal Saber describes the second crystal as a "focusing lens" to adjust the length of the blade, not as two crystals creating the plasma/light energy source.

2) Having two crystals, one Lightside, one Darkside, would probably be rare, and as in chemicals in the human body, they would probably reject each other or react way too unpredictably to be useful.

I am probably wrong but I do like "Marshmallow Twists".

kind regards,

For Tyeth

@Artair: Wookiepedia is your friend.
"Tell me, Jedi, do you fear death?"

"Do you fear your own reflection?"

"No..."

"That's your answer."

  • Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice.

I'm grey. I use the darkness to defend the light. I believe in balance between the two because you can not have one without the other. On the other hand, evil should not be allowed to flourish. On the part about collecting sabers, you can collect whatever you want bro!
Light and darkness, you cannot have one without the other. To achieve equilibriem you must be in harmony with both; the path between.

I always thought colour and hilt styles were up to the Jedi to decide, based on available materials during construction and personal preferences. I never really labelled any saber hilt specifically as light/grey/dark. It is more on the individual. A saber is just a tool, there is no alignment to a tool. It's up the wielder to decide.

Zeddicuus is right. A Force user can design a lightsaber that conforms to their personality and their resources, not by some multifaceted idea that something should be a certain way just because *coughCOUGHmodernculturecough*.

My personal preference is to use a saber that reflects your preferred historical origin of combat. I am a bit of a mix between valiant knight, brutal Roman soldier, rebellious Frenchmen and Irishmen, and respectful yet deadly samurai. I feel my two ASP sabers reflect that if I can snaggle together the money for them.

Per my reading on Wookieepedia, the Sith Red color was mostly the result of being forced to use synthetic crystals as the Jedi Order controlled the places where natural ones were to be found, and the red synthetic crystals ended up being associated with the Sith. They did not however explain the lack of "Natural red crystals or the lack of other synthetic colors (with the notable exception of Luke's saber)) That being said (and as previously mentioned) When making their lightsaber Padawans used the force to find a crystal that "called" to them. The crystals themselves were neither light or dark they just focus energy.

Though I expect that once red got routinely associated with the Sith, a padawan's master might look askance at a padawan who chose a red crystal.
I am an equal opportunity irritant.

In the famous words of Darth Maul (Other than his two lines from the actual film) on his llightsaber :

"Let it be nothing more than what it is; an instrument of murder, and nameless."

Sabers are nothing more than instruments utilized by their wielder. Essentially a saber has no light/dark side allegiance. Its all contingent upon the user. Dark Jedi who defected and found their way down the dark path utilized their sabers formerly associated with the Jedi Order. I see no problem with the style/color association. Own any saber you desire.
