Is it possible to buy a sound core from you saberforge at a later time and have it installed? If so how much is it?
Why is there such a huge jump from the Warrior to the Champion edition? Is the sound core just that expensive?

The difference in price covers the soundboard, which is about $150, and it can be done at a later time. The cost for doing it at a later time might be a little more due to the labor involved. Easiest way to know for sure how much it would cost to update later would be to contact customer support at This email address is being protected from spambots. It is a sporadic issue with g-mail. If you use an alternate e-mail originator (AT&T, Comcast, Yahoo, etc), your inquiries should go through.

In addition to the soundboard, you are also paying for a speaker, a recharge port for the battery, and the installation of said electronics, which requires a certain set of skills and knowledge.

I understand the purpose of Warrior tier sabers-especially when it comes to price/affordability. But if able, I would always get sound and just use the mute setting when appropriate. Best of both worlds! B)

I had one; it was my first non-Hasbro saber, and when I bought it I wasn't ready to spend multiple hundreds of dollars. I eventually put a sound board into it, because without it I felt like I was just holding a flashlight with delusions of grandeur. On the other hand, a friend of mine accused me of "ruining it by adding the annoying sounds," so obviously not everybody holds the same opinion.

I've also heard people who use stunt sabers because they are worried about the durability of the sound board; however, I've never actually heard of somebody who broke a sound board in a professionally-made combat-grade saber, so I don't know if I'd call that a valid concern.

They are also popular to use with cosplays for large conventions, as it's usually so loud the sound gets drowned out.

I've also seen people who do lots of spinning and contact work get soundless sabers, because unless you get the top of the line Cyrstal Focus board which has proper spin sounds, regular swing sounds don't match up to their movements (which can be annoying).

I've been waiting for the Crystal Focus v8 to come into stock, but it feels like it's taking forever.

Now when you are talking about stunt sabers, what do you mean exactly. I know they dont have sound, but are these dueling sabers or do people use them for filming or something?

Most people use stunt sabers for heavy dueling/making fan films/ or conventions.

I was surprised to discover that my Force FX Black Series is pretty good for spins. Essentially, any time it's accelerating, it plays a swing sound with volume and pitch proportional to the acceleration. Since spins are pretty much continuous acceleration (just varying in rate and direction) it matches up to them pretty well. If you actually managed to spin at a very consistent speed, I don't know how well it would work--I'm not good enough to be that consistent.

On the other hand, any time I spin a Force FX saber I'm worried that I'm going to smack it against something and take out half the LEDs in the blade. The sounds aren't reprogrammable either, of course. Still, for an entire saber that costs less than a Crystal Focus board, it's surprisingly good.

How does one get into dueling? I mean obviously practicing with friends, but are there like competitions and stuff? That sounds really fun!
