I have started a new thread for information pertaining specifically to ASP sabers. The thread is stickied, and locked so that only I (or one of the other mods can edit/post to it. This is so that the only information that appears is the actual FAQ, rather than a lot of posts regarding the FAQ.

I have started it with one topic, which was something I have seen come up pretty often already, which is folks complaining about mis-aligned parts. They seem to be unaware what those thin metal rings are for that come in the package, so they now have an answer on that issue.

If you have more information to be added, post it here, and I will add it to the FAQ. The hope is that it will grow to something we can point ASP customers to, the same way we point new members to the general FAQ, to answer questions for themselves.

So, hit me with some suggestions!
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

It took me a while to peice together that ASP has just completed a Kickstarter and indiegogo and so is filling those orders before opening up the shop for general public, so a note on that would be useful to other new visitors.

Brax, thanks for creating this, some questions were starting to get repetitive and it was bound to get worse, ESPECIALLY about the rings. Well, much appreciated.

Since I haven't seen anything on it yet,

How much will the extra ASP parts cost?

How much will the electronic components for the ASP cost?

How many more ASP sabers from the combined Kickstarter/Indiegogo/etc fundraisers have been made so far?

These are things we don't yet have answers for. Perhaps as the public launch gets closer, there will be more information, but for now we just know it's coming.

Even still, a FAQ should be full of Frequently Asked Questions, and I've seen similar points asked a number of times. Even if the answer is only "To be announced."

Thanks for starting the FAQ Brax.

I have a question - what type of switch should come with the different levels - LED blade vs. Sound Effects with LED blade? Does one get a latching switch and the other a momentary switch?

Thanks,
Lewis

No Sound gets a latching switch, With Sound gets a Momentary switch.
The above post may be subject to editing. A lot of editing.

Also an explanation of what that means. I for one have no idea what a latching or momentary switch is and have been confused during discussions about them.

Also I'm seeing a lot of questions (more in the KS comments) about people who have no idea how to do the install and complaining that it comes with no instructions. I know there's a really good video that shows 90% of the setup (doesn't show putting the buttons in) that would be great to include.

a latching switch in basic terms is a clicky switch ...like that of a flash light you push it down and it stays engaged. a momentary switch is comparable to the way a key on a keyboard works it triggers a signal only once pressed. the reason the sound set up needs a momentary switch is that it has a microchip to deal with the sound and it only needs the one time signal to turn on or off....... the use of a latching switch would cause issues...not that different from what would happen just holding a key on your keyboard ( mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm) lol
hope this helped

Switch definitions are a quick google away ;)

If you want to get fancy, you can get Momentary/latching convertors from that one custom shop that shaln't be named. Lets you use momentary switch on latching circuit.

Latching switch = CLICK, switch is on. RE-CLICK, Switch is off. Like a flashlight/torch. Used to close/ open the circuit when the circuit is literally just battery, LED and switch.

Momentary Switch = TAP, switch connects momentarily to signal the circuitboard (soundboard) which then decides whether it's an ignite signal, a "deflect" sound signal or whatever. Like tapping the button on a mouse or keyboard.

They can be the same shape or size.

Brax,

Something you might want to add to your answer to the alignment issue...

[Your answer on "ASP FAQ"]. For a more precise alignment, some sanding may be required. See video (or link) below from the Custom Saber Shop for more details.

However, would sanding void the warranty? If it does, I would recommend either not posting it or include the below statement:

Warning: Sanding the ASP parts voids the warranty.

I will have to ponder that one, as alteration of the joints between sections might indeed constitute a warranty violation. I mean, it does not compromise the integrity of the saber, and does not affect the electronics. So, its kind of a grey area, kind of like sanding off a weathered finish. Not being an employee, I would have to consult with Customer Service on this one.

Edit: I sent CS an e-mail asking about this. I will let you know what they say.

Good thread.

I think we may need some advice on how to glue switches to the hilt for the ASP. I have no experience with this. (I was not part of the original Kickstarter but plan to acquire several constructs when it launches later).

This may not be ASP specific, but perhaps an explanation of the features of the Sabercore boards, and how the in-hilt menu is accessed would be a nice addition. One of the most common criticisms I hear about SF's electronics around the Internet is that no settings can be changed, and mainly from people who purchased Champion sabers without any research and simply didn't know about the menu, and somehow in handling their sabers have never accidently accessed it (a separate tab on the main website explaining this would also help, but that's something for another time).

Perhaps breaking this down into "my saber is too loud/quiet", "blade flicker is too fast/slow/missing", "swing/clash isn't responsive enough" questions might be better.

This may all be moot once Sabercore 3.0 comes out, but that may be a long ways away

About my question about the switch for ASP.

I received the following answer.
Hello! All of the switches for the ASP sabers are the latching switches. If you are still having trouble, please send a short video to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . In the subject line put "attn Melissa" and include your backer number.

I'm not sure how easy it is going to be to make adjustments to the sound settings with this switch, so far I haven't been very successful.

Lewis
