Hey,

as I've already stated in my "Here I am - post" - my lucky husband will get a saber for his birthday this year (in october - so enough time i guess) but there are several things I don't understand (maybe because of lacking knowledge of all the english words :( ).
I hope you can help me.

1) I assume the "Standard"-hilt-finish is the polished silver one and the "Weathered" the one, where the hilt is black and has these "scratches" on it?

2) Is there a big difference between the 6 and 12W LED? The saber will only be for display - what option would be better?

3) What are LED Quick Connects?

4) About the different blade types: "Saber 37 in" is the standard one i guess, "Staff 32 in" the double Darth Maul thing, but I don't know about the "Shoto 26 in" thing ..

5) Saber stands: Maybe I'm not clever enough to find pictures of the stands - how do they look? Are there photos of the stands maybe with a sword in/on it?

6) About the Accessories: I'm thinking about buying the Venomous Fury - if I buy it in Warrior Tier - which is okay if it's only for display I guess - do I need any accessory in addition? Blade Plug? Blade Tip? Kill Key? Infinity Blade? I don't even know that all of these parts do/mean ;)

If there is some page on the website I simply overlooked that answers my questions I'd be glad for a link. Otherwise I hope you take a little time and answer my question - since I live quite far away I'd like the order to be perfect in the first place ;)

Thanks to everyone taking their time to help me!
:)

Howdy.

Yep standard finish is the shiny metal. Weathered is the blackish ones.

12W makes a difference. Brightness is good but they also give you a rechargeable battery and charger so you don't have to spend money on batteries. So I like the 12W option.

Quick connects are little connectors on the wires to the LED unit. It's so that you can disconnect your LED and put a different color in if you want to. If you only want 1 color of LED, you don't need quick connects.

37" blades are a bit long unless your husband is very tall. Most people I've seen prefer a 32" blade. Myself included. I'm 5'9" (69") (175cm)
So unless he's real tall, I'd get 32"

There are some forum posts around here with at least one of the saber stands. If you can't find it, there are probably photos on the etsy page, right? I don't know. I'm on my phone, I can't link you anything sorry.

The only accessory you should need is a covertec belt system. The blade plug covertec wheel and basically everything else you need comes with the warrior tier. If you're husband already has a covertec belt clip then you won't need accessories.

Wow - thanks for the really quick answer!

Okay - then I'll go for 12W. Changing the batteries every now and then sucks (Since I assume the thingy will be switched on veeeery often :P)

So do I get you right that it's more about the lenght than the name of the blade? Doesn't matter that it says "Staff"? Btw - he's 1,93 m .. So quite tall ;) Do you think, the 32" is the right choice anyway?

Okay - I'll click through the gallery then. I guess if the stand doesn't have the imperial logo on it it has to be the Phoenix .. ;)

But if he doesn't use the saber for Cosplay, LARP etc - does he need the belt clip then?

Edit: I found the stands on etsy. Thank you! :)

The length of the blade effects the balance of the saber. Since he's 6'3 it sounds like the longer blade is a viable option. The "staff" verbiage is communicating that the 32" blades are better suited than the longer ones for a double bladed saber.

Yup, you got it.

If he ever wants to wear it around the clip is the easiest mechanism to do this. The round like greeblie towards the pommel of the saber is called a covertec wheel and it slides into the covertec clip. It's relatively inexpensive so it's a nice doodad to have.

Also, if you're not planning on getting specific customizations it's fastest to order through etsy. Typically takes about a month versus the 3 months or so from the website. The website is mainly used for custom jobs.

The only real advice I'd offer is don't assume it's for display only. It's easy to think "I'll only display it." but the truth is once it's in your hands it is pretty hard to not go swinging it around. And that happens every time you pick it up.

12w is the way to go if it's not a price issue. My 5w still makes me happy though so it's not a can't live without thing. Internal recharge alone is worth the upgrade though in my opinion (you get 12w and internal recharge for 1 upgrade price.) At 6'3" he'll have no problem with the 37 inch blade, I'm 6' and have no trouble with it. However I do also have a 32" and it is just that much easier to work with "for show. " If it's mostly show, sound is nice. Champion is not a cheap step though so your pocketbook is your guide. Personally I see no reason to not have sound. It can be turned off if I want silence but when you are holding your lit saber it really needs to be humming.

Venomous Fury in standard still has lots of black on it but you are correct weathered means all black then some of the black buffed away. The easiest rule, although not set in stone,is good guy=standard and bad guy=weathered. Lots of good guys will tell you everything=weathered though and from time to time bad guys like standard.

Etsy has pictures of the stands and so does the Saberforge facebook page. Both hold 3 blades but the Imperial stand in particular looks just as good with 1 or 2.

I agree with Aproximo, it is hard way not to swing the saber around if it's in your hand.
With the lightsaber, nobody can avoid to become a kid. I granted.
And the experience might get greater with the sound.
Display only? Haha impossible

If you don't get the sound, you are going to have to deal with him making the sounds with his mouth (which he absolutely will). Are you really prepared for that, or would you rather to be driven to distraction by saber noises that are authentic? :P ;)
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

The hilt already comes with the covertec wheel, the belt clip is very inexpensive and truuust me, you'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Besides, it's like the exact same system they use in the star wars movies. (I, II and III anyways)
Just to test it, I put a replica Luke ANH in my clip and it's the same. Good times.

Thank you so much for your answers! It's awesome that you guys are so supportive and patient! :)

After several hours of thinking and wracking my brain ;) I decided to go for the Guardian, weathered. That one's really beautiful!
I'll chose the 32" blade - since I want to be able to handle that thing too B)
Belt clip - check ;) As you said - since it's very affordable I'd kick myself if I didn't add it.
About the sound - it's rather my husband nagging about the price I guess. ;) Have to think about that .. On the one hand - it's rather expensive .. but on the other hand it's insanely cool .. And as you said - otherwise he'll be making the sounds :P Gotta meditate about that and search my feelings ;)
About placing the order here or on etsy - what do you mean by "custom jobs" - deciding on the colour of the blade etc isn't a custom job?

The color (or colour if that's your fancy  ) of the blade (or rather the LED) isn't considered a customization but rather an option. Custom jobs are large scale modification to the body of the saber that deviate significantly from the base model or specific types of weathering other then "standard" or "weathered" (or the dual-tone which isn't an option for the Guardian). I would suspect hat Etsy is the way to go for you is it sounds like you don't have any specific mods in mind.

As a member of the Saber Forge Comrades In Arms in Waiting Support Group I can assure you that what you're experiencing is perfectly normal and at the end of the wait you will have a beautiful new baby er, saber, which will need hourly feedings you will be able to duel with and lovingly gaze at until you decide that you need more of them in your life. And yes, if there was some sort of hold up they would contact you. This is all part of the beautiful and natural process. ;)

I strongly advice him to do so.
Nevertheless will he be doomed to wait until his birthday (end of october) .. Or maybe it's even harder for me since I can't wait to see his reaction

(Yeah, he doesn't even know what his present will be - been annoying him with vague hints for 11 weeks now  )
