After my Vanquish comes in Im thinking of getting a hilt with a short blade and then cutting it down to about 20" and using it as a dagger.
The premise is that the Sith has it as his back up and uses it for close up assassinations or force wields it to create a defensive barrier while he strikes with his two handed Vanquish. Also, the saber was his saber when he was a young apprentice Jedi.
What are your thoughts on hilt and color of blade? I was thinking Indigo for blade as he always had darkness inside but Im not sure about the hilt. Porbably a weathered hilt to show he has had it for a long time.

Nice idea, I like that ^^. My first thought was an Apprentice Hilt, specifically Oracle, as it looks like a Dwarf Hilt and your Indigo Blade is easy to imagine. For the Hilt Finish I was actually imagining Grey Weathering but unfortunately this isn't a Finish readily available across the range and for the limited few it is available to, are Elites. With that said, Reliant?

I hadnt reallylooked at the reliant before. It does fit the bill quite nicely.

I also just noticed that the ASP is actually open now. Hmmm

Wouldn't a guard shoto serve the same purpose? It's a great idea. I may actually try it.
As kids we all want to to be Jedi. It's only when we grow up we realize that the Sith are much cooler.

I dont like the Katana hilts for stealth. Since if you wanted to conceal the saber that huge guard would make it harder to do so.

Seems like an ASP would be the way to go. You can definitely make a discrete hilt with the available parts. The one below I whipped up in a minute and is only 9 inches long...

Definitely only a one-hander...but isn't that what you'd want for a concealable dagger?

I really like that saber OvrcAHst.

I came up with something similiar so I think Ill do ASP once I get my $200 coupon from my Vanquish order.

Oh, when I built mine I used the Graflex pommel. Since it has the D ring you can do away with the cov wheel. There just isnt space on that body for that wheel! haha

Makes sense, when it's configured tight, doesn't leave much room for much else. Rather than a fixed hang from your belt via the D-Ring, I'm actually thinking (don't know the technical name for reference so will try my best to describe it) attaching one of those retractable clips commonly used for Pass Cards or keys for security clearance areas where it extends out and retracts on itself upon release. The string is typically made of nylon however have seen some (especially for keys) where it's made from a tensile steel wire. An off-hand grab for defensive strike and once composure is regained, let go and it's back on your belt while you continue to advance with your primary.

Haha, thats a good idea. Thats something to look into for sure!

Whip the saber out, slide it into some moronic Jedis back then let it go and it slides right to the back of your belt, unseen. Then screem, "He has been shot!, as you slip into the background chaos.

Nice

Most of them that Ive found wouldnt retract a saber. They are too heavy

What would a smaller saber weigh without the blade?

Don't fret Lord Ttocs =Otto= has arrived with a Level 10 Master MacGyverism,,,,,

A present you a weed wacker pull string mechanism. Maybe change the cord type, but should be strong enough to retract a sber IMO.

Complete oversight on my part regarding the Hilt's weight especially when trying to pair with the zip-retract cord thingy. As for the weight, an average Hilt with sound would be 496grams/17.50Ounces. As for the potential configurations you're looking at where the Hilt is say 9" or less and likely as a Stunt only, it should be lesser still. The only extra weight would be the 20" (or less) Blade that's paired with it.

Good call Otto and a timely arrival. Something like that commercially retrofitted may just be the answer. The alternative of course is hitting up Bruce Wayne to see what gadgets he's got lying around the cave still being R&D'd. :P Ttocs, even with Otto's suggestion modified and camouflaged, I reckon it might tie in pretty well with your SabreTooth Cosplay. You'd just need to secure it properly to a generous belt rather just hooking it over the hem of your pants.

Another option would be a Tool Balancer you can get them in varying sizes, retracting forces, and even ratchet locks. That could be cool built into a gauntlet so you could pull some cable out until it locks and have it swing around like your using the force. B)

I agree with some of the others, ASP is the best means to get a hilt small enough to be considered a dagger. I know at one point I designed a hilt on ASP that was about 6" in length, which would be ideal for a dagger style saber. I orginally designed this as I was pondering ordering some for my younglings.

It's an interesting idea for a dagger.

Got to thinking about this and put together something on my break. I know someone mentioned being so compact it would probably only be a stunt saber but maybe some serious cram-fu would get more.

I remembered seeing this on shapeways and might work for the ASP to get a full install with sound which might be tough fitting SF Champion Kit in.
