So I have no machining/drafting skills whatsoever but I found this website: http://www.emachineshop.com/ that lets you download a free CAD program that lets you design and get a 3D mockup of the parts you design. After you design your part you can get prices quotes and order from their website. I was able to design custom saber claws that I'll be getting in 10 business days. I was super impressed how easy it was to use. It is a bit of the pricey side though since they're used to working with businesses and their discounts are for bulk ordering. Check out what I slapped together:

Sick! Are they aluminum?
Imagine all of the greeblies and modifications and claws and boxes and extensions and etc and etc you could do! Prepare to go broke.

Yup, asked for 6061 billet aluminum since you can specify the type of material you want used.

One set was $145, three sets were $142. Yup, that's right, it was cheaper to buy more, go figure, so I got three sets. It was worth it for me cuz I don't have the skills or friends w/the tools to do it myself and I was curious to see how this whole process works. |

That's my hope. If a group of three or more pooled the cost of the parts it would be much more economically feasible. I view this as an experiment as much as anything else.

What would/could be an awesome idea is to have a few people go in on a purchase with you... split the cost up a bit. Say, if there were four or five people interested, would that lower the cost even more, or do they only come in sets of 3? Even then... get six people in, everyone selects a set, split that cost up... could be a REALLY cool way to get some custom claws on sabers... =D

The set of three made the most sense for me, the default number is 25 since they're accustomed to businesses and not hobbyists. I could have gotten more but I wouldn't have known what to do with them. Next time I'm looking to make something I'll probably run it by this group and the custom saber facebook page to lower the cost.From what I could tell the majority of the price tag comes from making the custom mold, once the mold is made the cost is dollars to make multiple parts since aluminum is a relatively inexpensive material. After this little adventure I'm gonna cool my heels until I see if this could have some sweet sweet synergy with the ASP sabers. |

Update
The parts have been machined and shipped. It took them roughly 48 hours and tracking says I'll receive them next Friday since I opted for snail mail. I'll upload pics and a review/comparison w/the SF aluminum then. |

Hello, I will be curious to see your parts when they come in. You said something about a mold? Are they sand casted? I am going to guess they will be laser or water jet cut. If you post picures of the sides, I could tell you. If you look at my Consular post, you can see the stands I lasered out of steel. If you are interested, I am a mechanical engineer and use both Catia and Solidworks for aerospace part design. I have access to a complete machine shop and am certified to weld all sorts of metals. The price I would charge per set would be $50. The only thing is my lead time would be about 1 month because I would use my free time.

Got the pieces and while the kiddo slept I mocked up a Sorcerer and sanded the rough edges.
Sanding took three passes: 600/800/1000 grit. I should've done two sessions w/the 600 but they're going to be painted black so my indiscretions will be glossed over Attached to my Sorcerer: Final Thoughts I got exactly what I designed. Price was high but if a group of people got together to spread out the costs it's worthwhile. Sanding took longer than I expected but I'm very happy with the final result which will be integrated into my ASP Legacy saber. |

Do you have to drill your own holes into the claws to attach them, or use like.. epoxy or somesuch to get them to attach? Just curious, as it appears in your pictures you had them taped on, but I assume that could be just because you weren't putting them on for any longer that it took to take the pictures.
 Either way, they look pretty cool, and this is a neat idea to add some more personal, custom touches to ASP sabers overall... |

Since this isn't going to be a DIY project but rather parts for a SF custom so I didn't bother to design holes into the parts (something you can do with their CAD program). Their final home will be a heavily modified Archon so I taped them to one end of my Sorcerer as a claw arrangement proof I could show the saber tech (same gentleman who did yours Knytiri).
Either way, they look pretty cool, and this is a neat idea to add some more personal, custom touches to ASP sabers overall...
I'm typically more than content to leave design work up to SF's creative staff and techs since I have practically zero machining/artistic skills and I love what they create but this opportunity was too good to pass up. I'm looking forward to seeing what the saber community cooks up once they run wild w/ASP and begin making their own customizations.
