Hi everyone!

A couple of months ago, I placed an order of a lightsaber, which I wanted to pick up at the German customs office today.
However, I was not allowed to take it home with me because the lightsaber was not labeled according to the EC Directives.
The electronic devices need certain logos and labels, such as "CE" and "RoHS Directive" and a manufacturer's serial number in order to be accepted in the European Union.
Have these labels been forgotten to include or did the customs office miss them (are they hidden somewhere?)?
Should these labels not be included, the German customs office sees no other option but to send the order back to saberforge.

I look forward to receiving an answer soon because I only have a limited time to manage this issue.

Kind regards,

Markus B.

I understand, just more a general "hey, so you know". I got your email. I'll bring it to Phil's attention right away for you.

Hey there,

strange that the customs reacted that way. I did not have this problem last week.

I must say I agree with Roxas here. We've recently had a Croatian fellow who had issues with the customs because they wanted a bit of money to release the package, but we've all read plenty of Europeans receiving their sabers with no issues what so ever with the customs.

Are you sure they aren't keeping a day or two so they can have fun with? :p

I really hope your saber is going to be released soon and that you'll be able to enjoy it.

Ugh, I'm glad to be living in America where there's just good old fashioned incompetence holding up our packages and not graft.

We have that too :)

Let me tell you a tale of incompetence which happened to me.
Earlier this year, both my grand-parents on my father's side died. Life. The transfer of all the material and immaterial possessions of people to their next of kin is extremely complicated in France (because f*** simplicity and common sense). My father offered to be the one to represent him, his sister, my siblings and my cousins, in order to simplify the signature stuff and all. And for that, I had to give him power to represent me in front of the notary (works in English??), for which I had to sign him a paper and have my signature authenticated in City Hall, and then send all the documents to the notary before a certain deadline.
I sent them 10 days before the deadline. The documents had to travel a whole 400 km (250 miles). It took them 10 days. When I confronted the post office about that, they ask me:
"Oh. Happens sometimes."

And because such an answer was starting to get on my nerves, I asked for more explanations.
PO: "Did you give us the envelope or did you slip it in the box outside?"
Me: "In the box outside, where you're supposed to pick it up twice a day, from Monday to Saturday."
PO: "Yes, but sometimes we forget, or the guy who's supposed to do it calls in sick and no one gets the mail then. Also, there's something wrong with this box, sometimes envelopes stay stuck at the bottom of it and we don't pay much attention to those envelopes sir."

And yes, that is (directly translated) the actual answer they gave me.

This is not a political rant forum nor is this the topic for, however, if you ever have to deal with a French public service, arm yourself with nothing but three things:
  1. Patience
  2. Patience
  3. Patience

And somehow this country works... I don't know if I should be amazed or terrorised ...

I'm surprised that item 3 on that list isn't wine. :)

Wine would be for another entire list, such as:
How to spend a nice evening with friends in France:
  1. Friends
  2. Good breads
  3. Good cheeses
  4. Cut meats (saucisson, pâtés, terrines, foie gras, etc ...)
  5. Good wines

The use of plural isn't a mistake here :p

Dear Knytiri,
I would very much like to try those Buffalo Wild wings you are talking about. Send me some and I'll send you a package of some of our finest French cut meats (seriously). I'll let you send me a PM regarding the details if you wish :p

Excuse my national pride, which only shines for food and wine (maybe rugby IF we win this world cup, which is unlikely), but I do think that the old continent, and France particularly, still has culinary stuff to teach you :p

Throw in a pack of this beer you talk about and I'll send you some fine wine too! :)

WAIT.... YOU'VE NEVER HAD BUFFALO WINGS?! I mean, disregard the Buffalo Wild Wings, just... just the thought that there areas without hot wings is..... devastating to my entire perception of this planet.....

I..... I have lost all faith........

(if it's not obvious, I kind of exist off of hot wings. Or chicken in general buried under buffalo sauce. Cause yum.)

Perhaps not so sophisticated as some of the items Faethien listed, but so very good!
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

I do love myself a good buffalo wing.

And a good charcuterie plate.

We are not so different after all.

Sorry if it seems sophisticated, I'm trying to translate from French, but had I known charcuterie works in English too, I wouldn't have bothered :p
And trust me, these are not sophisticated at all in France, not at all. Saucisson is a basic, and so are pâtés and terrines :)

@Knytiri: sure you don't want a package of those? I'm quite serious here, that'd be called a win-win exchange, no? :)

@Knytri: Would the buffalo wings you talk about be the same as the KFC Hot wings?

Great minds think alike andromedakun, my guess was it probably was something related to those. I only hope they're much more tastier than the KFC ones ;)

Since Knytiri talked about these famous Buffalo Hot Wings, it seems like I found a recipe online.
Will try it out and let you know.
