Who are you guys most excited for from the new SW cast? For me it's Daisy Ridley as Rey. Besides being the main character, Ridley is a perfect fit for Star Wars from what we've seen. Plus she seems like she's going to be a badass with her staff! Wait until we find out it's a staff saber ;) (that's a joke, folks. It isn't a staff saber. No spoilers here, move along)

The reason I'm waiting fits in with the second question. I'm glad that we got a seventh movie and all of this new star wars stuff coming out but I won't say I'm excited for the movie like other people are. To me this movie seems like a remake of the original trilogy. You have the empire.... First Order, led by Darth Vad.... Kylo Ren (Not even a Darth title), a young teen who wields a blue lightsaber, Han Chewie and the Falcon. But to me the Skywalker story ended after episode 6 and there is not much to follow after that. If you look at the EU, while the skywalkers are at the focal points a lot of the focus is shifted to either their children or side characters such as Wedge Antilles. I would have preffered Disney to make a movie set thousands of years before or after the Original Trilogy. Like Kotor or perhaps a movie centered around Yoda.

No characters have really jumped out at me but Daisy Ridley's is starting to grow on me though. If she becomes a jedi than I'll be sold. (Even if she has that dumb Soccer ball droid following her around. I want to punt it so bad.) And I'm so happy that X-wings are back, best Starfighter ever.

I think we can kiss the fast paced lightsaber fights goodbye though. That last trailer had Finn hacking away at that trooper like he was swinging an axe.
It is funny to me how one reason ( though not the only one, for sure) some folks did like the prequels was that they were not enough like the original trilogy. Good article on that here.

The thing is Star Wars is so many things to so many people there just can't be a Star Wars (post 4-6) movie that is not going to have a camp that is going to be disappointed because of something they did or didn't do with the films. Me, if it has Jedi I am so there, with bells on.

I think those saber duels will ramp up as things go on. It world be silly for Finn to be leaping about like a fully trained Jedi at this point.

I'll be there 7pm the 17th. There is something about the shared experience of seeing something you love worth a room full of people who love it too. And the crowds will ensure most are die hard fans (me I don't mind crowds- from time to time).

That said I think it is vital that Rey is a force user. As I have said, a main character female Jedi in the films is LONG overdue. Her not having the Force would be the number one disappointment for me. For reference I actually liked the prequels so it takes ALOT to disappoint me.

Yes, the fact that Star Wars means many different things to many different people is a very important fact.

Here's the deal: The Force Awakens will not be a life changing movie for those who have grown up with the other movies. For kids these days, The Force Awakens has the POTENTIAL to be life changing, but it likely will not unless it does something that kids haven't already seen, something groundbreaking and new like the original. Otherwise, they will just remember it as another action adventure movie. Most will never know the reason Star Wars is so loved is because it was so risky and different for its time. Nobody had seen it before.

People have seen the Force Awakens already. Not the actual movie, but it's not going to blow our minds.

At best, The Force Awakens will be remembered as a "good" Star Wars movie. At BEST. But due to the hype and all the speculation and all the people who want the movie to satisfy their fan service... It's likely going to get slammed by Star Wars fans, slammed by critics. I've said it before, JESUS could make this movie and it will still get nitpicked to hell and compared to the originals which have an unfair advantage. Just go read online and you will quickly realize how significantly people are going to be disappointed when this movie comes out.

That said, I think it will be a great movie despite its flaws and I won't let others unconstrained excitement ruin my enjoyment. It would take a major screw up on JJ's part for me not to absolutely love this movie, and remember it as my generation's Star Wars to REALLY remember.

I LOVE Star Wars and both the pathos and the ethos of the Jedi in ways I can't begin to describe, yet I freely admit that if I were to make a list of the top 50 films of all time NONE of the Star Wars movies would make it. The are all OK films IMO, not great ones. I firmly believe Star Wars as a whole, and the films in particular, are far greater than the sum of its component parts--in way that just can't be explained.

I agree with Darth Malik like with the Matrix and its squeals once we have been wowed as a society by something so revolutionary (and don't get me wrong SA new Hope was revolutionary) nothing is ever going to live up to that level for everyone no matter what happens. I guess I am content to have low expectations, as some would say. The day after seeing Star Wars A New Hope back in 1977 the other kids and I were not on the playground bemoaning the wooden acting of certain cast members or the bored delivery of seasoned veterans. Hell no, we were running around pretending we where zipping through hyperspace and whacking each other with sticks (back when you could do such things) while making light saber sounds. For me THAT has always been what Star Wars was about, that and the uncomplicated tale of good vs evil. So long as this or any other Star Wars movie gives me action and a rollicking good time I will be happy and go see it several times, it is escapism at its finest IMO.

And I'm sure seeing it for the first time as a kid made a big difference. Most people I know that saw it for the first time as an adult didn't like them or a least didn't become obsessed with them. The associated childhood magic definitely makes a big difference for me. It became more than a film and more of a big part of my younger years and has stuck around for a lifetime.

Yeah it's weird for me cause as a kid I was barely interested. This year I'm 17 and I watched the original trilogy and I fell in love. I've honestly watched them like every weekend and have been reading canon and watching TCW... I love Star Wars. I'm probably an exception but you definitely don't need to grow up with it to love it! Which disputes my original point, but I really hope people love the new movie. I think it's gonna be great and again, it's my generation's (not exclusively, but you know what I mean) Star Wars so it's gonna be an awesome experience

Hi everyone,

I missed Star Wars in '77 because I was 2years old, I missed Phantom because I was on my honeymoon but this time TFA falls on my birthday 17th Dec (in UK) so can I still claim TFA for my generation?

There's a Studio Movie & Grill near me that I put a lunch reservation in for the 21st of December. It's pretty cool; you reserve a seat and get to order food from your seat. It sounds weird but it's actually super convenient.

We actually have AMC Dine-in Theatres around my way (NY/NJ). Not an every day choice but certainly appropriate for the right occasions.

I'm in Texas and we have the Moviehouse & Eatery close to where I live. Huge recliner seats that go all the way back (like a bed) and a waiter that will bring food, drinks, desserts, snacks, candy, per your request. Extremely heavy on the wallet but on special occasions it's a great experience.

I would've bought tickets for TFA there but they sold out so fast and I want to go opening night. Maybe for a second viewing perhaps I will go.

While not true in every case I think there is a kernel of truth to the "Ewok Line," when applied to all things Star Wars (as always exceptions apply). I never watched the show How I meet your Mother much but a friend told me about this and it makes a lot of sense at least insofar as how age at the time of viewing has an impact on certain aspects of Star Wars. My kids, one who was 2 and other born the day after Episode one, don't share the same ire as many for Jar-Jar, because as they grew and saw him in Ep II he was not annoying. To many 3 year-olds (again not all) he was funny and silly. Just as the Ewoks were cute to younger viewers. I think at least some of this logic can apply to a great many things about how people feel about the originals, the prequels, and Star Wars as a whole.
