Buying a SugarBottle may be a bit much, however you can make one (Or at least half!)

1) Wash and dry a beer bottle, then grease it as if greasing a baking tin.

2) Make up some sugar syrup mixture like you would for Spun Sugar or Toffee/Candy Apples.

3) Fill the bottle with warm water (NOT HOT WATER JUST WARM) This prevents it from shattering!

4) CAREFULLY AS MIXTURE WILL BE HOT! Pour mixture over bottle so it coats ONE side of bottle and allow to cool.
This will create a "SHELL" or one side a bottle which when cold can be carefully trimmed. If placed face on to the camera it should appear as a whole bottle. You can apply a label using dabs of sugar solution as glue. The shell should peel off quite easily because of the grease.

I will however state that this is normally the sort of thing professionals would do so may still be hazardous, but I feel this is the safest method you could use.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS USE SAFETY GOGGLES AND PROTECTION!

5) Hopefully you should have a STAGE BOTTLE that is MUCH safer to break than glass!

Good luck

Thanks for the instructions on making sugar glass, but that seems complicated for me. I've got friends around that should have a few cans of beer lying around, so I could probably ask them about using one.

Eye protection will most likely be me using some goggles lying around.
My name is Fours. Medic. CNA student program. I last bought a lightsaber after the last Star Wars. A new film had me look for a new one to call mine.

Yes I can't stress that enough about protection (Eye goggles and gloves!) if you're intent on carrying out your stunt.

Sorry it wasn't much help in the end but I didn't want you or anyone else getting injured (no matter how noble the message is) doing something risky as breaking glass!

I will repeat,

PLEASE STAY SAFE, and hope to hear from you in the future.

BTW I'm FORTY on the 17th so Happy Birthday for the 14th!

I'm with For on this one, whatever you choose to do please do it safely and make sure to wear proper safety gear for the situation including eye protection.

I was once an art student so I understand that some creative expression comes with risks, just be sure to minimize them and have a plan incase things go wrong.

Also I salute your choice to stay sober.

It's really a morality choice for me, plus I want my liver to live long.

One night of a few drinks will not do anything to your liver. Excessive drinking will. It wasn't till I was 37 and special circumstances that I ended up just saying screw it and giving it a try. Did it make me an alcoholic, No. Did I put up with years of people making fun of me not drinking, yes and still do when I go to the local dive bar to visit co-workers after work. I still to this day don't really drink alcohol as I see no reason for it, it's expensive and just not worth feeling woozy. At some point you may or may not break down and give it a try. But to claim it will make your liver live longer from abstaining from one night worth of drinking is a false pretense. Either way, just be safe. I felt the same way at 21, but things change over the years. You may or may not drink at some point.

Totally with you on this one, up until some point ... Let me explain my meaning.

I'm French, we more or less have wine instead of blood in our veins. So yeah ... When I was 3, my parents would dip their fingers in champagne and have me suck on it for special occasion, like Christmas. I don't remember it, they told me they did.
When I was 6 or 8, sometimes my dad would let me have a sip of his beer (mind you, light ones like Kronenbourg or Heineken, stuff around 4 or 5 degrees)
And now I've started recalling all those memories, man I started young xD

I could have a sip of wine from times to times around 12, and my first full glass of wine (one per meal & on special occasions only) not before 15.
It's when I turned 18 that my parents "actually" let me drink alcohol.

Before that, or after, I have never seen the point in getting fully drunk, puking all over the place and not remembering shit from my night. Some people do, I don't get it. However, when you're Sam (the nickname we give in France to the driver for parties), it can be a lot of fun as long as you put safety first. For example, I have friends who, to this day, are absolutely certain they did this or that because I told them so, but they don't remember it because they did not do it :woohoo:

Did this underage drinking make me an alcoholic? Absolutely not. On average, I drink one beer a day (half a pint worth of volume), and if I don't, I might have a small glass of whisky.
I know where my limits are, I do not go anywhere near them as I want to be aware of what happens around me so I don't do any stupid and/or risky stuff that might get someone (me involved) injured or hurt in any way.
Then again, I'm French. And we drink alcohol on a daily basis because it's not just for celebrating, it's also for living :)

We have a saying in France that says: Most countries in the world eat and drink to live. French people live to drink and eat.

I'm pretty sure that if you look at the average wine or alcohol consumption per capita in France, we might have one of the highest ones. If you look at the actual alcoholism in society, I don't think we're doing too bad. But I'm making assumptions here, I didn't research any data to corroborate this.

Have a glass or two, that'll shut your friends up, you'll know what alcohol and drinking are like, and you won't, in ANY WAY, damage your liver, trust me/us on that ;)

But then again, it's your choice. If you do not want to drink at all, suit yourself mate :)
1. You are looking at my signature.
2. Now you think "Of course I am, you bloody idiot!"
4. You did not realise I skipped bullet point 3.

Warning Old Git Alert!

Sorry to barge in again but I feel you have a decision to make that in the end only you can make (bit like choosing a saber that suits you, but more serious).

You have the choice to drink or not, your friends should respect your decision either way!

Having a sociable drink with responsible friends in a safe environment shouldn't harm you, but you need to decide.

With experience (and knowledge) you may decide to be a drinker later.

You appear to have misgivings on the idea already, so I would suggest you only start to drink AS AND WHEN YOU'RE READY.
Peer pressure is not a nice thing to endure and your friends should understand your position. Good friends will look after your best interests and support you.

All I can add is whatever your decision, I wish you well and just please be safe.(Either drinking or performing stunts!)

Hey! I'm gittier than you any day For Tyeth :P
You are 4 months older though, I'll give you that. (17th April)

To Fours: You sound sensible enough and you know what you want to achieve with this trick. Most importantly, make a plan and stick to it. Don't be swayed by fools who want to see you falling over your feet.

Ha, you bet! :cheer:

In fact I'm relying on you for info and updates into any extra customs charges or delays.
Your sabre should be getting into the UK pretty soon. So I'm gonna be asking questions

My sabre has been through all sorts of hold ups and weirdness since I ordered on Aug 24. The SF guys have been quick to respond though. I believe Kevin G is on the case.

Here's hoping your toblerone is imminent.

Xyster.
