Don't worry JoshS, it's just because he posted 5+ threads on the subject and got into a name-calling argument with a few other members of the forum. I would link the fight as an example for how not to react but it was removed in its entirety.
The red module is made using red Cree XB-D LED's, which, by definition on the Cree datasheet, is red. 650nm (the wavelength of the light in nanometers) is a value preferred by LED enthusiasts, but the LED produced by Saberforge is red. If you think the issue is a mistaken LED you can always contact sales and see if they can assess and fix your blade if needed. I have not had a good opportunity to see a side by side comparison of the sabers in these posts with a previously ordered tried-and-true Red, so I'm basing anything I say on the idea that the amount of complaints indicates that something is actually wrong. For all I know the color you have in your hands is red, as I have not had first-hand experience with the sabers. TL;DR: Contact sales and take anything I say with a grain of salt. |

It's foul and/or aggressive language that gets users banned. That and repeated, useless or nonsensical posts. If you've got a legitimate concern, it'll be addressed as helpfully as possible by everyone here who can offer help.

Hi, Im new to this forum but not new to lightsabers. Currently I only own one Saberforge lightsaber, a prodigal son in green. However my 2nd saber is on order and will be in red.
I fully expect the red to have a somewhat orange hue to it because every other saber Ive ever owned has been this way. Whether Ultrasabers, blazing red, custom sabers or master replicas or Hasbro sabers, all of them have been on the more orange side of red. In my experience most red LED's have to be a compromise between color and brightness. The human eye does not see all colors at the same intensity. Different colors have a different apparent brightness. For instance if you put a 12W green Led side by side with a 12W red LED, running on the same exact power source at the same level of charge using identical blades, the green will appear brighter every time because green has more apparent brightness to the human eye than red does. Red also happens to be the color with the longest visible wavelength. The closer you get to pure red the closer you get to the infrared spectrum which is invisible to the human eye. So in order to pump a pure red LED up to the apparent brightness of say green you need a lot more power than you would for the green LED to get the same apparent brightness. The same holds true in audio. Bass frequencies require a lot more amplification to bring them to the same apparent volume as more treble frequencies. Red is the visual equivalent of what bass is to audio. I believe most red LED's are shifted away from what we would consider pure red to be able to achieve a more acceptable brightness while still being power efficient. A brightness to color compromise. Ultimately I would rather have the red appear brighter even if slightly more orange than I would to have a dim, although pure red LED. Its personal opinion of course, but I believe that is the compromise you have to make with red. |

This is something you'll notice almost everywhere: stop lights, brake lights, power lights in small electronics, etc. There is definitely a compromise between brightness and wavelength- something current semiconductors are not able to overcome so well. I'm actually running through some theoretical values to see what the potential brightness difference you would see in a 650nm red saber would be. I will probably report back at some point with what I find. |

Ok so I just did some quick research on the Cree XB-D LED's Saberforge apparently uses. The datasheet says the average wavelength for its red LED is 625nm with a variation between 620nm to 630nm.
Pure red is around 650nm, while orange is around 590nm. So right away this red LED is about halfway between red and orange, with a 630nm LED being closest to red and a 620nm LED being closest to orange. However all of these would be considered red for the purposes of the LED's specifications. So I believe this is normal for this particular LED to have some orange hue to it. |

I compared the flux values of the XB-D LEDs and those of the XP-E "Photo Red" values and found that you could lose roughly 45% of your brightness if you were to have a true red saber. I never converted radiant flux to luminous flux before, though, so I may have made a mistake in my calculation. I will probably order some components and compare them in person to confirm, but I think we have the culprit. |

This is why the sith choose red, only true sith can see pure red....
Most of us are somewhere on the spectrum towards the light side, but for those haneous few.....
