I've noticed, like I am sure most of you have. That the screw digs in to the blade, and leaves little "bite" marks. Does this eventually make the blade loose when tightening, with all the marks it keep leaving each time... I don't know If I am explaining myself correctly...

Yeah, that's normal.
Just try to rotate the blade so its not always in the same spot.

well yeah, but you know eventually. The whole part would have a groove along the whole blade...

Also, you might try tightening just finger tight.
The more you force it past that the more damage it will do.

I have a ton of retention screw dimples on my blades and have yet to have an issue. Hopefully that is the norm.

And if the bite marks really bother you then lightly sand them down and rap(only once) the blade with clear tape.
It will keep the blade snug and save it from the bites.

I think that might be from tightening the screw too much. Someone said awhile back that the correct way to use the retention screw is to screw it in until it makes contact with the blade...then one half to one single turn more and thats it. Sorry I can't remember who it was a week or more ago when I first got here.

Is the retention screw stripped? If so, you might have to drill it out, and retap the hole. If that is the case, and it is still under warranty, I would e-mail customer support, and inquire about what to do before doing anything that might void said warranty.
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Hi Codcolin78,

Did you remove the retention screw completely and then re-inserted it when you put the blade in and then tightened it?

OK Brax beat me to it again, I'm typing on a Tablet, not easy it keeps trying to CORRECT ME!

Sounds like you cross threaded it.

So the set screw won't come out and I've only had it about 12days should I return it or would it be covered under warranty

Hi Codcolin78,

Again I would suggest you contact SaberForge and see if you can message Jason Polachek (he runs the custom shop but may be busy!).He may be able to give you advice on how to remove the screw without further damage being caused.

Kind regards

I agree it sounds like it may be either cross threaded or pinched by a rotation of the blade.

Before doing anything I would contact the forge and see what they say.
I know their super busy so it might take a while to get a response.

I learned the hard way about cross threading metal parts. The best method to avoid doing it in the future is to place the screw lightly in the hole and slowly back it out while applying light pressure until you feel or hear it click. That is the point when the threads fall into line. Then slowly screw it in and if you meet resistance stop immediately and back it out and try again. If you continually meat resistance you may have a burr or other imperfection that may need work to fix.

Best of luck

H Codcollin78,

This may not be the usual way to do things but if you contact Justin using this email address, explaining your problem I am sure he may be able to advise you further, he is an amazing technician. I don't think the customer service guys and gals would have the knowledge to assist in this instance (no offence meant!)

the address: http://[email protected]

As I say, he is busy but has probably seen problems like this before, just apologise for the inconvenience contacting him this way and explain you have asked around for help first here on the forums etc.

I hope this helps and hope you get some good news,

For Tyeth

(be prepared for a slight wait though, sorry)
