Something I don't yet understand concerns our Lithium-ion batteries in Champion / Hero range sabers. How many long would these batteries last upon usage over time assuming we use it and charge it "normally" over the years to come? And if it needs replacement, would I have to send the hilt back to SF to get the battery replaced?

The main site says they use a single NCR 18650B rechargable battery which is removable cell (like a normal battery) as opposed to a battery pack. Some quick googling says they have a lifetime of about 1000 charges.

So replacing it wouldn't require any complex rewiring or anything, you'd just have to get the battery holder out and pop a new one in (which would require getting the speaker out as well, though).

Thanks, that's good to know on the estimated 1,000 charges!

Maybe one day SF can do a youtube demonstration on how to remove these batteries and replace a new one. I don't like messing around with these electronics inside.

Should take much, you just have to remove the clip holding the speaker in place and the speaker and battery compartment should slide out. I haven't done it with my saber yet myself but I've worked with similar electronics. No special training or expertise should be required I am sure.

I just had a look inside my Epoch saber. The battery does not sit inside a special compartment or anything. It is tightly wrapped around in black plastic with what appears to be the sound board, with a wire connecting to the speaker. There is definitely no manufactured battery compartment made just for the battery in there. This is definitely a job for the technicians at SF?

So how good is the actual battery life for a 12w+ blade battery at full charge?
"Tell me, Jedi, do you fear death?"

"Do you fear your own reflection?"

"No..."

"That's your answer."

Does the battery develop a memory? That's what I'm wondering.

Huh. Well. I looked up things about it as a curiosity quite a while ago and it appeared the way I mentioned. Looked pretty straight forward but it is possible I ended up with stuff about ASP?

It sounds like a simple solder job to replace, but if you have not done such things before I can see it being a bit intimidating. If that is the case you could most likely send it back to SF for them to do the replacement.

On the plus side, the Li-Ion battery in these things is the same kind of battery your smart phone uses. That can give you an idea of what to expect out of it. It should take a long time indeed before the battery is noticably acting up enough to require replacement.

To answer Jimster- yes, Li-Ion can indeed develop a memory over time, but it takes a very long time to do so to this battery type and a lot of usage. I've read several contradicting things about Li-Ion batteries over the years, but from personal experience fully draining the battery once in a while is good for it. But topping up a charge won't hurt it unless you're doing it all the time on a very frequent basis.

Wish there was a light that could warn you how much battery life is left. Or a voice say low power or even say it in percentage. If it can use fonts with voices then it could be useful for some kind of voice indicator of the battery. Just a thought.

My champion Templar on low battery condition has a boot up response. The saber just turns on without the "sabercore crimson" and the response to the saber is delayed. The LED still lights up though with the delayed sounds and all. This condition is temporary until you charge the saber. afterwards, its all good with normal working condition.
The Force existed long before the Jedi and Sith united under the light and dark.
It will be here long after these empires crumble...
