Hi guys, first post here. I've built an MHS saber and done installs on some other pre-built hilts and now I'm interested in some of the beautiful designs by Saberforge for my own installs. It looks like the saberforge hilts uses a 2.1mm rechart port, but is installed in a 12mm hole. Does anybody know where I can find the 12mm adapter or whole 12mm piece that includes the 2.1mm recharge port for a DIY install?

Thanks

eBay has a bunch. Shameem Moshrefzadeth (I think?) has a vide of him doing an install with a link to them in the description.

Waiting for my ASP hilt to confirm fit, but I've already tested these electronically, and they work just fine with a 2.1mm charger.

Probably because they're coming from Hong Kong. I would be wary of that, but since Shameem and Kouri vouch for them, I ordered a set (gonna try to add one to my ASP saber).

For the price, it also never hurts to buy a bunch to stock up just to have around.

RadioShack's got plastic 12mm AV switches. I can't confirm the head fitting into the recessed area until my ASP hilt comes in. I used one in a recent MHS build with a recessed Standard Switch hole. The head fit just fine into the recessed area, but the hole had to be widened to 12mm (1/2"). The toothed nut had no problem grabbing onto the hilt's inner radius.

In-store, item 275-644 is a black switch, while 275-646 is a red one.

Other than that, I'll just look through TCSS, Solo's Hold, Amazon, and eBay.

Kouri what criteria do the 12mm av switches need to meet?

I found a bunch on ebay that look good but some are 12v car, some 12v boat, some 3v etc...

Doesn't really make a lick of difference. I think the 12v switches just have pre-resistored LEDs to work with the car's 12v line. You'll need to do some digging to see the swicth's actual power rating, since the voltage in item titles is usually just in reference to what voltage the LED expects or uses.

If you want to get technical, stunt switches will need to withstand about 4v and 2-4A, depending on 6W or 12W LED, but just about any AV switch can handle that without issue. Momentary switches will barely have any power running through them since they're wired to the board, not between the battery and LED.

Ok here is what Im getting confused on....

The ebay item id given is invalid, no result has been sent

"switch works from 12v - 240v AC/DC , green led pilot light works on 1.7v DC."

What does it mean "switch works from 12v..." but at the same time it needs to be resistored for 1.7v so the LED doesn't blow?

It looks like that's saying it needs a minimum 12v power source and max 1.7v at the same time...? huh

The switch and the LED are two separate components, therefore have different specs. There are actually 4 posts on the unit: 2 for the switch and 2 for the LED.

I purchased this switch on eBay.

It works, but it wouldn't fit in the 12mm hole in an US hilt. I had to drill out the hole to make it work. Not sure if the switch or the hole was the issue.

I'm having problems finding a 12mm black AV switch with LED, which is what I really want. So if anyone comes across one let me know.

Just got the recharge ports in today. Wasn't supposed to arrive until June, so it as a nice surprise.

I know that the L shaped tab is the positive leg, but I'm not sure yet which of the two remaining legs are which negatives.

Got a digital multimeter? Plug a charger into it, put the red meter probe on the L-shaped leg, and touch the black probe to the others. If only one of 'em shows a voltage, that's the one.

I believe Shameem wires this exact one in this video...you might be able to tell from there. I think he starts around 42 minutes in. And I acknowledge what Silverlight Pony is saying, but just in case you don't have the meter maybe this will help.

And if you figure it out, please let us know because I just ordered a hand full of these as well. :-)

Yeah that would be the easiest way. Don't have one yet, but it's on my list. I also want to get a little 2 AAA battery holder for LED color testing, since the dies don't look like the color they give off when not ignited (for instance, on my B/B/W Tri-Cree, the blues look white and the white looks yellow).

After a little closer examination, I have a fair idea which are which based on the little tab on the inside that cuts off part of the circuit when a kill key/charger is inserted, but I just want to be extra sure. I won't need to use them for a while anyhow.

Oh I will. Best to make sure everyone is safe when working when batteries.

While we're on the topic, maybe someone can chime in how this was accomplished:

Just a shot in the dark:

They are using a recharge port that has threading (so a nut can lock it in place) like the SwitchCraft brand TCSS sells, and they have drilled and tapped the center of the knob to be the same thread pitch. Essentially turning the covetech knob into a big nut.

EDIT: This is a really cool idea. I may pursue this further...

For the ones bought of ebay here you go

Schematic diagram pin 1 connect to the socket of middle round pin, connected to the positive. The other two metal sheet is connected when not plugged into the power plug. After access to the power plug is disconnected. Schematic diagram pin 3, connect to negative, schematic pin 2, connect to your other or not connect.

After some more thought, I've realized they may have also just drilled a hole in the knob, and the nut that came with the port is being used to keep then together (though I doubt how stable that would be). Additionally, in either scenario I wouldn't want to hang it from a belt anymore using the knob for fear of warping the port.

I was had an idea for a kill key for this setup: You could start with a key that would fit completely inside the hole in the knob, had a head that was the same color as the knob, and was short enough that when plugged in it would be flush with the knob.
Then cut a wedge out of the knob (making it look like Pac Man), and then attach it to the head off a kill key, essentially making it a handle.
