Hey all!

so, i had a bit of a dilemma when i planned to order my saber, and it was the recharge option.

the champion/hero tier sabers had options i did not need (i want to assemble and choose them myself), however the warrior tier did not have the in hilt recharge option with the recharge port and the kill key.

i wonder if that will mean that the hilt wont contain a prepped hole for that?

and if so, where could i obtain a recharge port, and if i have to do the drilling myself, what diameter hole do i need?

Warrior tier sabers do technically have the second switch/charge-sized hole drilled, but its filled by a dummy switch that is glued in place.

[EDIT]
Also, the electronics in Warrior-tier sabers are designed to run off 3 standard AAA batteries rather than the rechargeable 18650s. Even if you were to install a charging/kill-key port, there may not be any way to connect it to a warrior-tier circuit board. Plus, trying to charge non-rechargeable batteries can lead to bad things happening.

as long as you get a warrior tier with a 12w+ LED option all the electronics will be able to accept a wired in recharge port seeing as it will already have a 3.7 li Ion rechargeable battery. You may have to get a protected cell along with your recharge port but if you can wire it yourself it should be relatively inexpensive.

Warrior tiers have the option for 18650s...but no recharge port.

And not sure what electronics you're talking about in warrior sabers? Battery - switch - LED. No circuit board that I've seen.

To OP: Most of the sabers will indeed come with the dummy switch as stated earlier, but not eeeeeeevery saber. Best to ask SF if your specific choice comes with it. (Or find a review of it in warrior.)

A recharge port can be added fairly easily to most stunt/warrior sabers with 18650/rechargable setups.

When the Custom shop re-opens. They can install a charging port to your warrior tier.
I own, Relic, Archons x2. Bane x2. Templar.

Drahem,
When the Custom shop re-opens. They can install a charging port to your warrior tier.
The service option to send a Hilt to SaberForge Directly for Tier upgrades is still available. Once upon a time (as a variation to this) it was an available option if simply wanting a recharge port installed. Is this no longer available, to simply negate Custom Shop with uncertainty of New Commission acceptance?

it would be fine if they would ship it with the dummy hole, i found some recharge ports on ebay so i can install it. if not, i know some ppl who could drill the proper hole in the hilt :)

well, as it turns out, it wont.

just got this reply through email asking about the hole for the recharge port:

"Correct, warrior tier sabers will not have the recharge port drilled.

May the Forge be with you!"

When did this change?... I have ordered two Warrior tier sabers and both have a dummy cover over the second hole. I was going to install sound and my own recharge port later on.
If this is the new procedure for that tier then I guess I'll have to request for a second hole to drilled for now on.

This must be a recent development because the warrior tiers I received in the past came with dummy switches over the second 12mm hole.

*ponders*

I know the safest route is to take Melissa's info at face value but I wonder if she means to say it's not an empty "drilled" hole, it's filled with a dummy switch. Initiates come with both holes, seems odd the warriors don't. Must save time.

Could also depend on the specific hilt.

Inititate hilts have two 12mm ports covered with dummy switches.

Warrior hilts have two 12mm ports. One filled with a 12mm latching AV, the second covered with a dummy switch.

Champion hilts have two 12mm ports. One filled with a 12mm momentary AV, the second filled with a 12mm recharge port.

Hero hilts have three 12mm ports. The default two filled with 12mm momentary AV switches. The third is apparently custom-drilled on the Hero saber to fit a recharge port.

My Champion Tier Venomous Fury has three holes, two filled with a momentary switch and a recharge port, and one on the bottom filled with a dummy switch. So this Champion, at least, has three holes.

Got an email fro SFCS:

Among several questions I asked, one was:

If I purchase a Warrior Silver Knight, can I request 2 switch holes of the same size instead of 1:
- one for the main switch
- one for a future charge port (no need for a dummy switch/cover…keep it open)

There answer is:

"...We can request that the hilt be drilled for in-hilt recharge and have a dummy switch over that hole, however we cannot guarantee that this modification will be honored as we typically do not offer this type of customization."

-Signed by India-

I'm soo confused!!!! :S

RichellM that reply from India is confusing. All of the hilts come with 2 predrilled holes,ALL OF THEM. A Warrior hilt, as Kouri described, will have one fitted with a latching switch to activate the soundless warrior tier saber. The other empty hole will be covered with a faux switch plug that can be removed a a later date to install a recharge port, but the existing latching switch will have to be upgraded to a momentary if you ad a sound card. In case of Hero tier then a third hole has to be drilled, so I have no idea why India replied that way .

Me, too!!!

I'm just going to go by your experience and Kouri's.

Just saw a youtube review of a SF warrior tier Silver Knight and a warrior tier Guardian by Jordan Moll. Both sabers only had one 12mm hole. I don't know if this is still the case now. Reviews were done last year.

Both of those sabers are the ones I want to get and upgrade to a Spark 2. I guess when I purchase, hopefully, SF will honor requests for an additional hole to be drilled or just ask them to use a champion tier hilt with warrior electronics...of course I would have to replace the switch.

RichellM I read your post and just finished perusing YT. I would recommend that you demand the 3rd hole and state the reason why. It would seem that these 2 particular sabers are the exception to the rule and I'm not entirely certain why this is, possibly something to do with the shroud? Anyway just state your reason for why and I'm sure they will accommodate your request and expect it to cost extra. Good luck.
