This saber was an idea that rattled around in my head for a while - I loved the idea of playing homage to the Imperial Knights by using their armor palette as the inspiration on the Silver Knight chassis, and when Justin showed off some of the first examples of Black Chrome powdercoating...well, that was basically the tipping point.
Getting a bonus at work to help fund the build didn't help either!
The specs:
12W+ Frost White LED
Sabercore Crimson soundboard
High Bass speaker
Shrouds / blade plug / kill key have all been given a black chrome powdercoat, while the internal "core" of the saber was given the deep red powdercoat seen on the Iron Phoenix.
The result? Absolutely beautiful.
It was amazing to see how well this came together. If you're considering either of these finishes for a powdercoating job, I can't recommend them enough. And interestingly, this is the "standard" powdercoat polish, plus a little finishing polish. I can't imagine what the "mirror" polish would look like - I kinda wish I'd had the money to splurge a little more that way, but at the same time, there's a nice balance here of "show quality" with the ability to be used. I'm not afraid to duel with this saber - in fact, my wife had the blade in and taking swings before I actually had a chance to handle it!
The Frost White is going to be a perfect fit for this saber, I think. This was just the basic charge it had right out of the box, and I was still impressed by the brightness and clarity. There really is a "coolness" to it that comes through when the blade is placed in it, and I think the full charge will heighten that even more.
I do have Quick Connects installed if I want to experiment - I may swap my Arctic Blue LED from my ASP saber in, for example, or possibly pick up a cyan. I also have an extra 12W+ amber LED on the way with my Reborn, and I bet that'd look pretty sweet, too.
Using a 32" blade is a good fit - I think a 37" would have been pretty good too, but in a two handed grip I felt fully in control, and there was a nice "snap" on the blade when I tested out a few strikes and cuts. I feel like this would be quite comfortable in a one handed grip, too, but my plan is to use it mostly as a two hander - that long ridged grip feels fantastic, and there's a nice natural rest for each hand.
(Oh, and did I mention that speaker is LOUD? The pommel really offers fantastic resonance.)
I can't wait to get more familiar with my newest addition - but for now I'm going to give her a good charge overnight, and put her in a place of pride to be displayed for everyone to see.
